Dean Markley guitar, Predator & Tone 2 Firebird synths, Battery drums.
I mic'd 2 tracks of the cube and direct for the rest. It's still a work in progress so crits always welcome.

I loove synth pop or indie-tronic or whatever they call it!!
The synths sound HUGE!
Where'd you score a Dean Markley guitar? I saw one in a shop in FL once, and I wish to this day that I'd snagged it. They made only a few, top quality from what I have heard, but decided not to stay in the guitar maker biz.

Thanks for the listen man!

The Dean Markley belongs to a friend, it's a super strat. He places products on TV and Dean Markley gave it to him back then when they made guitars. It's a well built guitar the pups are not great but other than that it's nice.

I needed to turn my sub off to listen ;) pretty awesome 80s synth work! good vocals/lyrics, nice prominent sounding vox - crispy and not buried. I would add some harmony vocals to the chorus. cheers :beerchug: ..drinkin a sam adams boston lager rignt nowz :)

I could use a beer too don't hog it all. :)

Thanks for the listen and tips!

The Snowball does sound pretty good considering it went direct into the usb slot and then to Ableton Live for recording, no mic pre. I did a lot of work on the mixing of the vocals though.

I shared the tune on facebook too so a few friends listened. One said he could listen to a whole album of this stuff.

We graduated in the 80's, of course.

The Dean Markley guitar I saw was a super Strat. It was 1988, so of course it was. Kind of a clear blue/gray finish, H-S-H OBL pickups, with a Floyd. Maple fretboad with black markers, I think. Just different enough from the Kramers and Jacksons which were everywhere at that time that I remember it to this day.

BTW what do you use for a loudness maximizer? That mix sounds huge and loud. I have the Sonnox, Wave Arts, Kjaerhus, and T Racks limiters and compressors, as well as the maximizer and limiter plugins that come with Cubase 5. I also discovered the Waves Tony Maserati Group plugin sounds great on a mix. But with those, I still struggle getting the punch and power (without pumping or other nasty artifacts) that I hear in commercial mixes.

Cool man thanks for posting on FB! Yeah, we're all in the same age bracket I'm afraid. LOL

Here's a pic of the guitar it's midnight blue, it has a maple neck and I'm not sure about the body but it doesn't sound like mahogany to me.

For loudness I have a Waves SSL compressor on the master fader just lightly then I master the track in Wavelab with Waves, Multiband compressor, EQ and the L2 Limiter. I suggest mastering separate from the mix for example with T-Racks. You should be able to get good hot masters with T-Racks.

Cool.....Your voice reminds me just a little bit of Billy Idol, but only until your range comes up...Cool tune...Something along the lines of "Simple Minds" from the 80s..

Nice job!
