Lovepedal Karl

Re: Lovepedal Karl

At first, I thought you meant Lovetone, but I've never heard of this pedal. I'll look it up. Actually, I just bought a killer new OD/Fuzz pedal....the T.Rex Mudhoney.
I'm waiting before I write any reviews, since I want to hear it on a bunch of amps and guitars. So far, I really like it. Real fat, real tubey, and when it goes into Fuzz, it has blatty undertones in just the right spots and swells nicely, but still stays focused.
I'm no expert on fuzz tones, but I tend to prefer the big nasty outta control tones rather than the thin buzzy ones heard in some psychedelic era songs.
What exactly are the characteristics of silicon vs. germanium?

Re: Lovepedal Karl

Germanium tends to be warm, fat, rather sloppy. Tonebenders and early FuzzFaces were germanium. The Fulltone '69 and Soulbender are germ., along with the ZVex Fuzz Factory, Analogman SunFace, and several of the MJM pedals.

Silicon is tight and more cutting. Silicon can be too harsh if it isn't set up right. The Lovepedal Karl is silicon (yet it still sounds warm with most settings), along with the Fulltone '70, Pedalworx McFuzz Hot, and the MJM London Fuzz II.

www.lovepedal.com is the website. There are some clips of the Karl that are pretty descriptive.

Re: Lovepedal Karl

What do you guys think of the Presecription Electronics Experience pedal? I haven't played one but the description sounds pretty cool... especially the swell. I like the fact that it has seperate switches for Octave, Fuzz, and Swell.

Any opinions?

Re: Lovepedal Karl

I've never played one. EJ uses or used one (no telling what he's got now... he must go through a hundred of these things a year). If you want a good Fuzzface type of tone, and that's all, then I'd check out Fulltone '69, Proanalog Scary Face, MJM London Fuzz I and II, Pedalworx McFuzz and AnalogMan SunFace. The Karl has the swell type of thing going on, but its probably different sounding from the Prescription.

Re: Lovepedal Karl

I was never a fan of fuzz tones before, but after owning the Fulltone 69 and this new Mudhoney, I have to say, they've found a place in my sound.

Last night, I amazed myself with the tones I was getting out of the T.Rex Mudhoney.
That pedal is friggin awesome! You can use it as a standard OD boost, or turn your signal into the sonic equivalent of a wall of mud rolling down the side of a mountain.
That's how I'd describe it.

Re: Lovepedal Karl

Yeah, gearjoneser, those fuzz pedals ought to sound great with the plexi settings on your ecstacy. The class a setting might be even fatter. Is that what you use?
