Lovepedal Purple Plexi

Anyone know of any mods that can be made to make *some kind of pedal* sound like the Love pedal Purple Plexi.

I am interested in that pedal but don't want to pay $200 for it.

I say some kind of pedal because I know there are a lot of mods out there and I am unfamiliar with most of them.

Thanks, Andrew

there are some other "marshall" voiced pedals out there that aren't as expensive as the Purple Plexi...especially on the used market.

MI Audio Crunchbox comes to mind

Re: Lovepedal Purple Plexi

I say this over and over on this and various other forums...

Just save up and get what you want...by the time yo get whatever low dollar pedal you get then have it modded at best you're only gonna be part way to the tone you want and will spent almost as much money plus the resale s gonna be really low.

I know it seems like a lot of money but at the end of the day you'll be much happier!

Bummer is though.....You really can't crank a 100 watt Marshall head up full out to get that tone....This goes for the 45 watt and 50 watt Marshalls...The attenuator takes speaker movement and air out of the equation...The compromise for me,has always been to run a great pedal into the front of the Marshall, but it's not really the Marshall's true tone on it's own...

I think he meant whatever pedal you want.
And for the most part I agree.

Re: Lovepedal Purple Plexi

Marshall has a few distortion pedals. I personally think their Jackhammer pedal does a Marshall-in-a-box pretty well

Re: Lovepedal Purple Plexi

Wampler Pedals has Plexi in a box and a JCM in a box (Plexidrive and Plexstortion). MI Audio Crunch Box, Modded DS-1 etc lots of marshall alike pedals out there.

Re: Lovepedal Purple Plexi

the SD-1 mods have no Marshall emulator version.

Technically true, but IMO LEDs in the clipping stage will go a long way. Also, if you do the modification work yourself, which is dead simple (I mean, even I can do it - that should give you an idea of how easy it is)

I think a modded DS-1 can be great for what you're looking for. It's not going to sound exactly like the lovepedal purple plexi, but if you want marshall in a box on a limited budget, I would look at modifying a DS-1. If you want some less gain, an SD-1 will be good for that. There are also a few ways to ratchet up the gain, but IMO it starts to get really compressed and I don't know if that's what you're looking for.
