hmmm I definitely have to say...

Vox AC30, Budda SuperDrive 18 or 30, Fender Blues Jr. Tweed with Jensen (I've played everything short of the HOB with one), and yes I played a 50w/25w Jubilee 2550 recently, and I think they sound nice fat and woody. They go for under $1000 since they are not nearly as in demand as the 100w, and they are in a small box.

mayyyyybe the Crate Palomino, played a friend's and it was cool.

OOO... i forgot about the Budda stuff but they might be out of my price range, we'll see. Thanks for reminding me.

id rather go for a 50 watts laney or engl.

Dr. Z Carmen Ghia.....18 watts, 2xEL84, tube rectifier, controls: volume + tone knobs, point to point wired...and can be had for around >$800 used. Killer amp!

Although I like the Route 66 a lot better, even though it's 30 watts or somewhere around there.

hehe, you we're asking for a cheap head. i don't know any better heads
for the money. if they're too powerful, you could also go for the little orange
(30W?) or Vox ac30 head

Thanks for the suggestion all the same.

I've never tried a Classic 50 but i hear good stuff about them. I'll give one a spin the next time i find it.

My other guitarist in The Branches has a Vox AC30 she runs through a Marshall 4x12... great sounding rig but I'm looking for something a little more marshally if possible.


Quite a list you guys have racked up! Looks like i should start doing some homework on this. Thanks again! And if you have any more suggestions let 'em fly.

Ehh... I'm hesitant to go back to Boogie because of some questionable customer service i received from them , plus I just don't think I'm a Boogie kinda guy.

That won't stop me from giving the F30 another try, though.

Know anybody building amps??
I have an AC-15 clone with a preamp from an AC-30, I love it and it will soon be restored back to active usage
Just right in the volume for home or small gigs, at less than clean sounds it reached 30 watts though, mine has a slightly bigger OT than normal.

+1 for the ZVEX Nano Head - a half a watt but still kinda loud. Cranked gives VERY Marshallish sounds. Id get that plus the new cab that Marshall puts out (if you are looking for bedroom level stuff). That cab is the 1974CX, with the ceramic loaded greenback speaker. This speaker is "specially aged for a tone that is 35 years old." Good setup with that. Do not be decieved by the low wattage ratings on those other vintage amps (like a champ or something - usually listed as 5 watts) because sane parents would NOT let you crank them at all. Trust me, i know.

I had an f-30. That V-32 I have sounds better at less than half the price. The f-30's overdrive channel IMHO has to much gain to be usable....the clean channel is good.

One of the best small amps I've ever played through was a Bedrock 621. About 25 watts, and loud as hell. Reminds me very much of a VOX AC 30 type amp, but with more gain.

Mine is a small combo, though they did make them in a head version. Uses two EL-84's at a very high voltage. (Regular Sovtek tubes red-plate at all but the lowest bias settings). This little amp has output transformers the size of what Mesa uses in their 50 watters. (People have complained that these amps are not always reliable. I think this is due to the tube being run so hard. Use a quality set of NOS tubes and you'll be fine).

This amp sounds great using an old DOD chorus pedal... "Ghetto Rules". LOL

Savage Macht 6 or Macht 12? But those are combos, I'm sure that you could call them up and ask for a head.
