LP Jr dc tribute

I have a LP Jr DC tribute. I like the guitar but find it difficult to access the last 2 frets.
Now I have an idea to drum sand the cutaway deeper. But im a bit worried about weakening the short tenon neck joint. I only want to go about 1/2" deep to kinda mimic the access I get on an SG.
Thoughts?

This model should have a longer tenon; not same width as the fingerboard like an old one or custom shop, but still extending a good way into the body.

Making a relatively modest scoop like you propose shouldn't be an issue in any case.

Awesome thank you. I haven't had my puckguard off. Only lifted corner to do 50s tone wiring.
