LTD To ESP:Worth the step?

Re: LTD To ESP:Worth the step?

The differences between high and low end is really shrinking. CNC and other innovations have eliminated the hand made variations we used to see. This has changed the game in ways those who did not play a cheap guitar 30-40 years ago probably will not understand. Materials are the major difference today really (as I see it). In most cases for mid-level that means multi-piece wood is used rather than 1 or 2 piece construction of high end. Things like that these days.

x2

The best case of this is PRS Guitars.

I have played dozens and dozens of PRS Guitars, and dozens and dozens of PRS SE guitars, and the if you close your eyes, the differences in feel, finish, etcetera, are basically imperceptible.

My experience only.

Anyways, I am conflicted - lower-line (e.g. LTD, PRS SE) guitars are a GREAT value because they deliver great quality and playability, and their used market get-price is always super low.

I got my PRS SE for $250, and it slays my American Fender for playability, weight, resonance, fretwork, hardware quality, and setup.

That said, Once you own a few high end guitars, it's hard to take budget guitars seriously. But I sometimes wonder if it's subconscious.

I have been playing my Epiphone Les Paul Custom a lot recently, and man, sometimes I flat get in the zone with that thing. In the zone like a moogerfooger. Then when I see the "Epiphone" on the headstock and remember that it's a lower-line guitar, it's kind of a boner-killer.

I know that's terrible, but I'm just being honest.

Like knowing that it is a lower-branded guitar actually affects my connection to it.

Anyways, YYMV, IMHO, ABC, OPP, U KNOW ME.

Seriously man, the Randall aren't plugged in? I guess those Randalls truly suck like many people do.

Hetfield used Marshall heads in the early stages of Metallica, his main choice was MESAa up until recently he uses Diezel.

Hammett on the other hand mainly uses his Dual recto. He'll use the Randall on occassion since it's his sig.

Randall's aren't bad, but need massive work to achieve the desire goal.

Re: LTD To ESP:Worth the step?

MEtallica is ENDORSED by LTD.... just saying. There's a reason why both guitarists have sig models. If they're on stage, they are required to have an LTD with them. Just like they have Randall RM series amps on stage with them (even if they are not plugged in).

They have LTD signature guitars, but they also have ESP signature guitars. Where do you get that they are endorsed by the former, but not the latter, and that they have to have an LTD with them on stage?

They do have endorsements by both ESP and LTD and both are required to be shown with them.

My qoute was taken out of context. When I responded with LTD I was responding to the poster who asked why some bands use crappy/lower budget gear on stage.

Metallica and LTD was just an example.

Also, take into consideration ESP owns LTD. Say if they just released LTD "The Grynch" sig model or a new LTD truckster line, they would want Hetfield playing those live more so than an older ESP model.

Re: LTD To ESP:Worth the step?

Back from the days when ESP used to build the necks and bodies for Kramer guitars, ESP was notorious for having their artists put a taped on ESP logo to the headstocks of their guitar.. this was done with George Lynch's Skull guitar, which was a J. Frog.

I wouldn't be suprised at all that the "LTD"'s you see Metallica with are actually custom shop ESP's, made in Japan, with the "LTD" logo put on the headstock to sell more LTD's. ESP probably has a higher profit margin off each LTD sold than they do ESP's

So what you're trying to say LTDs are really ESPs? ahahahah jk.

I wouldn't doubt this one bit. Hell if I was endorsed by ESP/LTD I would do the same.
