ltd vs esp

So I have been look at getting a esp viper. Problem is that it comes in any color you want as long as what you want is black. However they make a really sweet looking red ltd-1000 with Duncan's that I think looks great. Money is not a factor here. I am just wandering how much better is esp gonna be than the ltd 1000

Re: ltd vs esp

Well there are some LTDs that are very good, but usually ESP has better quality all around. But, I'm sceptical if an ESP is as much as double the price of a LTD.

Re: ltd vs esp

I have owned LTD's and I still own ESP's.

Not so much Fender/squire more along the lines of high end Epiphone/Gibson. It's the little things you notice. ESP's are NICE,even my control cavities are NICE. The cavities are finished just as nice as the outside of the guitar and not just some routed hole. One of the things that always impressed me was little things like that.

Re: ltd vs esp

I haven't played a new ESP since about 2002, but back then there wasn't much that could touch them for any price. The Korean LTD's at that time were very good also, but the newer ones I've played have not been near as good, even the 1000's. I hope the quality hasn't dropped on the MIJ stuff, but I can't say. If it hasn't, hell yes it's worth twice the money. The LTD drop scares me though.

Re: ltd vs esp

These analogies suck.

Think of the LTD (speaking of the 1000 series in particular) as a Gibson Les Paul Studio and the ESP as a Gibson Les Paul Custom.

It's up to you to decide whether or not the ESP is worth the price.

Re: ltd vs esp

Its not the price that is my concern. I just really like the red color the ltd comes in. But I am worried I will be disappointed in it compared to my other guitars (Jackson sl1, carvin dc127, Gibson explorer).

Re: ltd vs esp

I've owned a couple of both. ESP is better no question.

An LTD is not going to compare to you SL1.

From guitars of both brands I've played, I think an ESP is worth the extra outlay.

Re: ltd vs esp

Is a strat Fender better than a strat Squire?

I don't that's a comparable analogy cause Fender is made of solid woods while some Squier models are plywood.

I presume the difference that sets LTD apart from ESP is manufacturing cost. LTD is made in Indonesia where labor cost is way cheaper than that in Japan, plus the pickups and hardware.

Re: ltd vs esp

the general concensus is very fair here. don't be distracted on LTD models where they say the use maple or whatever wood that is the same as the more expensive ESP counterpart. there is a reason the LTD costs less and the ESP cost more. even ESP will admit this.

There's more to this than just specs and solid woods vs. plywood. Not all guitars made of "solid mahogany" are the same, are they? How many pieces of "solid mahogany" are in that neck or body? How well are they put together? Integrate that over the entire guitar, and you begin to get an idea of how different they can be.

Re: ltd vs esp

The more expensive LTDs are great guitars - I own an EC1000BK and I really like it. Are the ESP's better? Yes, of course, but the nicer LTDs are no slouch either.

Higher end LTDs are made in Korea.
