Anyone tried them? What were your impressions? After looking at magnet swap threads, I'm particularly seeing more winders advertising "roughcast magnets". I know that it's been mentioned that many winders use polished mags for both neck and bridge humbuckers and some guys prefer polished neck pickups versus rough cast BUT, I'm seeing more "boutique" winders using either "rough cast" or "slightly degaussed" magnets for both neck and bridge humbucker positions. I've also noticed slightly hotter than vintage winds for humbuckers with roughcast A3 and A4 humbuckers. "Lust for Tone" pickups were one of the many individual "boutique" winders that offer such a pickup.

Wildly overpriced, though. They throw in guitar string and PIO caps, forcing you to buy some things you might not need or want.

Yeah, typically 43 AWG was used for Tele neck pickups because of the neck bobbin not being able to handle enough of 42 AWG which made the neck sound wimpy. Now seemingly everybody is using 43 AWG wire for pickups which can make a pickup appear to have a hot wind. In actuality, if one were to compare it to a similar output coil wind utilizing 42 AWG the coil with the 43 AWG would sound like vintage to moderate output .

As for the price, most custom winders seem to be elevating their prices such that even Tom Holmes humbucker sets which used to be expensive, now appear to be more affordable. The PIO tone caps and strings typically offered with these types of pickup sales are very minor in the way of added value.

They don't publish the DC resistance specs, so I'm guessing the 43 AWG was a genuine "artistic" choice. IME, 43 AWG makes for a great low output coil. The Tele neck pickup gets a bum rap because of the metal cover.

Something wrong with the server over there. Page loads verrrry slowly and eventually there's a link to one vid but under Products still just the error message. Same error message under Social Media.

That's why David Plummer aka Zhangbucker sells tele neck pups w/o covers and recommends them that way. Guys like Don Mare have gotten around the tele neck bobbin dimension and wire gauge dilemma thing with his S-Telly pups, as have several other winders.

I had no problem going to the site and selecting the humbuckers I was looking at and clicking the details links for more information on a particular humbucker. Don't understand why it worked for me, the owner could have been updating his site especially if he saw references to the SDF when he queried "Lust for Tone" pickups.

I just got through perusing their website w/no issues whatsoever???? Did you try taking out the "s" in http"s" ?

There seems to be a lot of similarities between the claims made about expensive guitar pickups and expensive audio cables. Like if you pay $49.95 for this monster cable http://www.monsterproducts.com/Monster-Silver-Ultra-High-Performance-Stereo-Audio-Cable you get "greater clarity", "deep, tight bass and smooth, natural midrange", adjectives we've all heard dozens of times. I don't think you're paying for an extraordinary pickup, you're paying for an extraordinary day dream.

Until you actually try them, this is merely an uneducated guess.
I have had some extraordinary pickups that were very expensive. But then I have also had some that were cheap too.

Low Q cables do add clarity, so such a claim can actually be backed up......as your existing knowledge already tells you.
Those who scorn I find are usually bitter that they cannot afford the more expensive stuff, so need to feel better about it
