Luthier Made Les Paul

Re: Luthier Made Les Paul

Ran across this in a music store in local college town after night of Absinthe & Tequila. Supposedly a one off custom build from a Vermont based luthier. 10 plus pounds of what I believe to be a two piece Cherry Body with a Flame Maple Top, Pao Ferro Fretboard, Chunky '59 Neck, Binding everywhere, PRS Santana Pickups (amazingly articulate and full spectrum sound...you can literally hear the notes "bloom"), Schaller Germany Tuning Pegs.

Re: Luthier Made Les Paul

By blanks, are you talking about raw lumber that you go get from the lumber yard and then joint and plane and cut to size?...or the already-made pre-planed ones from Warmoth or Stewmac or LMI?

No raw lumber. A chunk of decently flamed maple or wenge or rosewood is between 50 and 80 bucks (at least, over here). That's without any prep done, of course.

I was talking about Gib**** of course. Uhm. Gibson. Their guitars less than 1000 bucks are really okay. Their more expensive specimens can't hold a candle to Huber, Fibenare, McNaught etc.

Re: Luthier Made Les Paul

I'm just going to divulge...$500.00 plus tax with a soft shell hard case...(gotta love Music Go Round)...well worth the price IMHO.

Well Done!!!
:D

Pretty sure it'd kick the $hit out of any LP-style under a Grand.
& prolly a lot of them over that!

Mebbe Google the headstock, may indicate luthier's origin?

'Grats again!

Thanks! I thought the same thing and did some research on the guitar and headstock - specifically Vermont Luthier Les Paul, etc. but came up empty. Odds are it was a small shop build or it would have had a Logo on the Headstock. Not really concerned about it to be honest; I like it and that's all that matters. ;)

I sat and played it last night for about an hour and a half and I was just as impressed with it overall (feel/comfort/playabaility/tone) as when I played it in the shop. I've dubbed it "Darling Nikki" since I picked it up after a bit of a Prince Memorial Party night.

I build guitars myself in my garage. If one of them ever came up for sale, it would be described as a 'luthier built guitar'. Odds are, its just someone who decided to make one as a hobby. The metric bridge and the t/p drilled too close to it for good break angle are signs pointing to this for mine.

Glad it plays well nonetheless.

Re: Luthier Made Les Paul

Yes indeed!!!

My eye is very trained....I can see 2 differences.

1. You've chosen the 1 LP that has a positional adjustable bridge so it can slide forward or backward on the studs. Look at the stud itself....you'll see a difference.
2. This is less of a definitive difference, as I think the geometry is different, but have a look at a line drawn through the T/P studs and the pot cluster on both.

The t/p probably should be up to 10mm further back.

While I've got you here.....what is the height of the bridge above the top?? Typically it should be 15mm
