Mac/ProTools guys - need help!

Re: Mac/ProTools guys - need help!

That's a tough one... normally I'd say to treat the room before spending $$ on monitors but since you have neither...

You're gonna need to treat that room somehow... Auralex is pretty expensive for what it is... there are many DIY plans for bass traps out there that can be built for very little cash... but with cinderblock walls you're gonna have to deaden that down somehow.

I've seen people toss good money into many sets of speakers but do nothing about the room... if the room doesn't sound good then NO speakers will sound good!

If you've got $600 or so... I'd get a pair of passive speakers for $200-300, Tannoy; Alesis monitor ones; etc. and some kind of power amp like a QSC around 150-200 watts per channel and spend the rest building & hanging some room treatment.

I'm not a big Krk fan... most of 'em are way too bright & shy in the bottom octave. The key is to listen to different monitors with the same music...

The 1970s JBL L100s I snatched up this summer suit all of my rock and roll mixing desires. Honestly feels like I hade a wet blanket on every other speaker I have ever used. I have no need to dig any further as far as speakers go. Should be able to find a set off the bay... A beautiful vintage speaker to mix with.
