Macbook Pro Line In Volume?

I need some help with an issue I've been having.

Basically, I have and external guitar pedal/multi effects unit, A Zoom G1M.

Now, when I plug my headphones into it, it sounds fine, it works well enough for me to practice on.

I had to download an app called Line In so that I could hear the sound coming into the line in as well to create a "Sound Thru" setup.

When I plug it into the line in on my MBP, the sound is very muffled unless I turn up the line in volume in the sound menu.

Unfortunately, that makes playing along with Guitar Pro tabs hard, cause the line in is too loud, but I can't find a way to turn Guitar Pro UP, or the Line In Down with out causing it to be muffled and weak.

Is there a program for balancing sound inputs on the Mac OSX or am I missing something?

If you have already tried making adjustments via System Preferences/Hardware/Sound/Input, then that is about all that you can do via the Analogue input socket.

The underlying problem is that you are offering a pedal level signal to a general purpose line level socket. Either get an attenuator or find another way to feed the guitar signal into the Mac. I use a MOTU Firewire interface box.
