Made an instrument.....

My sis had an assignment where she had to make an instrument.....this is what we came up with....

Materials:

Shoebox
2 Pencils
Rubber bands (8)
Superglue

Cut out a soundhole in the shoebox.
Glue the 2 pencils to either end (acts like a nut/saddle)
Wrap around the rubber bands, and tune up! Easy! (the clip is tuned to harmonic minor)

I thought it sounded pretty cool :headbang:

Re: Made an instrument.....

Lol cool man! Sounds like my first guitar that I made 10 years ago out of a monopoly box, rubber bands and nails.

Re: Made an instrument.....

Cool, how did you actually tune it up or did you just figure stuff out on it with whatever notes were there?

:smack: Just finished reading it

Re: Made an instrument.....

Sounds really good... it has a far east sound to it. A good composition as well.

Well done!

Re: Made an instrument.....

Its tuned just by stretching the bands flatter or sharper til ya happy. They stay in place ok

Re: Made an instrument.....

hahaha good idea dude!So try it with a wooden box now ,and build two different rows of strings and different saddles. How great is that !?!Cheers bro!

Re: Made an instrument.....

picture a shoebox with rubber bands wrapped around it.....its as simple as that.....or just make one yourself

Re: Made an instrument.....

Cheers.

What i learnt from this:

Sometimes limiting your options (in this case only 8 notes to choose from) makes you more creative.

I think it's always the case..if you are tired playing guitar (because you play the regular stuff) limit yourself to improvise something between fret 3-6 or 1-4 only...you'll find new melodies/lines. :)

Re: Made an instrument.....

Rich, yeah i've checked out that site.
But i dont think rubberbands and shoeboxes are quite upto their standard. Some of those handmade guitars are AWESOME!
