Mag Mic

Mag Mic

I guess it obvious from my user name and thread title, I bought a SD Mag Mic acoustic pickup. It was just delivered today and I haven't had a chance to install it yet. I'm putting it in my Martin HD28. Any acoustic players here that have tried this pickup and what are your opinions on it?

Re: Mag Mic

Welcome to the forum!

I tried it in a cedar Taylor and a spruce/rosewood Martin M-series, and loved the sound. I would like to hear what it sounds like in your Martin!

Re: Mag Mic

i use it in my martin d28 all the time, sounds great. live i plug into a fishman loubox and only dial in a little of the mic for some air on the high end. been using it for years and am quite happy with it

Re: Mag Mic

It sounds amazing. Just watch out for feedback when putting it through an amp. If you want a more flush installment then ream a hole through the bottom and install the output jack there.

Re: Mag Mic

Mine is in a '80s spruce/rosewood Fender. I think adding mic volume really improves the amplified sound of that guitar. I used it in a 8+ piece contemporary worship band and tropical folk/rock trio. I never experienced feedback issues, but it could get boom-y if I turned the mic up past 4 or 5.

Re: Mag Mic

I finally put Mag Mic in my Martin. I have a SWR California Blond II and after playing with the amp settings I was able to get the sound I wanted. I also have an Alvarez Yairi that has a LR Baggs M1A in it. The Mag Mic brings out the acoustic qualities better than the LP Baggs. Dialing in the mic in the Mag Mic adds a lot to the sound.
