Mag-swapping a FRED?

So, I've been looking for a more rock-oriented six-stringer lately, and I have come to the conclusion that an Ibanez JS1200 might be what I am looking for. Thanks to Blueman I have a spare A8 laying, so I figured I could try and swap the A5 in the DMZ FRED for an A8.

My question is: what can I expect from such a swap? I am not looking for a super-hot pickup, but since I am a lead guitar player in a heavy rock band (among other) I would really appreciate some nice cut and definition. I know A5 gives that too, but the more the better, right?

But as the huge Satch fanboy I am, it would be nice to not loose too much of the basic tone either:)

Re: Mag-swapping a FRED?

A8's have more output, more mids, and less treble than an A5. Both have firm low ends. Fred's are 10K so they're not overly hot. I think Fred's and A8's are a nice combination. You'll get a fuller, richer tone, that has more punch.

I have been using the Stock A5 Fred ever since that pickup came out and I Love it in one of my strats...Let us know how the A8 does?
