I think Gibson will be saved by their new mystical pickup switching system for 2018...

Do/don't like the poker chip? No problem! The new magic tapped poker chip will appear only when you want to switch to P90s... Ah well, I did think it Sod's Law :P

I can't watch a guy dressed like that for eight minutes. Even not looking, I can't listen, knowing he's there. What's the new pickup deal?

None, just lazy editing in the rush to put out videos on the Gibson 2018 line-up :)

Supposin' you watch the video and find out. The information is presented visually.

The news ain't all bad. There was a rumor going around that Gibson wasn't going to make ANY Les Pauls in 2018. I'd say this puts the kibosh on that.

I quite like the P90 Classic. The various shops started uploading videos the moment September 1st arrived, but their rush to do so has made it look a bit sloppy (lazy editing, pish poor amp sound, ignorant presenters etc), which I guess Gibson could've done without if what was being discussed in the Off Topic thread about the company not looking too well is accurate :-S

Re: Magical Pickups To Save Gibson In 2018

I like the way the poker chip magically appears for the closeups. As if somebody decided, "Oh, we have to shoot those with a different guitar, otherwise the audience won't know which setting he's changing to."

The skritchy drive sounds must've been some pedal 'cause a Pink Taco should sound way better than that even with Gibson pickups. Then again, what do I know about GC demos...

At least Gibson did away with the weight relief. Maybe there's hope for them yet. One thing I do like is the neck finish, which looks as if it would feel really good in your hand.

Re: Magical Pickups To Save Gibson In 2018

I'd like to see no weight relief, weight relief, and chambering, mixed throughout the line. No weight relief on the most historically accurate models, but options everywhere else. Maybe you don't have the same model in multiple weight relief levels, but you have some that are chambered, some that are Swiss-cheesed, and some with no weight relief.

I'm reminded why none of my Gibsons have the 498T in them. They're either Duncan or Gibson's better offerings like the 57 Classic, 57 Classic Plus, or Burstbucker 2.

[sarcasm] Well... if the 49R/498T combo is not magic, I don't know what it is! [/sarcasm]

The Iommi pickup set is very Wizards of Birmingham place... And the Angus set is white lightnin flashin across this guy.
Ok I guess those were a touch too much.

The baby took the poker chip off?

Yeah, little turd eats everything!!! I didn't mind him chowing the poker chip so much but having to dig my picks out of his diapers all the time is getting a little old....

LOL..... The chip was on it when I bought it for whatever reason. I bought that guitar listed as New/Other so that's probably how it ended up on it since they don't come with them stock? I pulled it off at the same time I swapped out the PCB for 50's style harness I built & changed the pickups out for some Duncan's....

In my case the 490 set lasted less than a week! They are just awful, awful, pickups in my opinion but I pretty much knew that I wouldn't like them when I bought the guitar & planned accordingly. It was an incredibly resonant guitar acoustically so I figured some different humbuckers would open it up quite a bit & the thing sounds bloody fantastic now!!!

I've always found the 490T/490R & 498T/490R made it sound like you were playing under water.....

So I'm listening and all I can think is "sounds like a 490/498"

Hahahaha

The david blaine of promotional guitar videos.

That'd be awesome at the end if he smiled and it was in his teeth. Or better yet...yours.
