magnet change recommendation for Seth Lover.

I have Seth Lovers in a Les Paul and I would like to tighten up the bottom end on the neck pickup- i find it can be a bit muddy and wooly sounding. I have bought a selection of rough cast Alnico magnets, which would you recommend to make the bass notes more distinct?

I'd go with A4 at first... then UOA5 will be my next choice. At last, if all have failed, A3... which some guys love but I just can't stand. But that's me; if it works for you, more power to you!

HTH,

Have you tried lowering the pickups and raising the pole-pieces above the cover?

Re: magnet change recommendation for Seth Lover.

I have a SL neck in my LP after looking around a lot: 59N, PG and also the SL with an A5. The A5 thin out the mids and gives a sharper attack and of course tighter bass - a lot like a 59N. So i would first try the unoriented A5, which is the middle ground between A5 and A2.
I am not keen on the A4 (my Ant set has one) because it lacks - i have no better word - personality - it has everything on the spot, but no twang nor warmth.

Yeh, first try adj pup and pole piece heights. Then swap the A2 for a UOA5.

You should try the UOA5, then.

I'm liking it more and more, the more p'ups I put it in...

i find a3 to be pretty similar to a2 but with a cleaner bottom end/low mid response and maybe a touch more chime

I didn't think we could ever pry you away from A8's. How would you rate the usefullness of the two? I find I'm replacing some of my A8's with UOA5's, and when I have a new bridge PU and want to warm it, my first instinct is towards an UOA5 these days.
