Magnet Swap on PRS DGT Pickups

Has anyone here changed the magnets out in recent PRS DGT Pickups?
From what I can tell, they come with A2.
I have had good luck going form A2 to A4 and I wonder if anyone has tried it?
I would like it to be a little brighter and snappier.

I prefer A3 to A4 in the neck, but A4 sounds great in the bridge. That should provide extra snap.

Re: Magnet Swap on PRS DGT Pickups

DGT has the same wind (and the same secret-sauce slugs) as the bridge pickup of the original T&Bs, just with an A2 bar underneath. So swapping to an A5 should make it identical to the old 1980s bridge, one of my favorite humbuckers ever.

It will definitely be brighter & snappier, and noticeably punchier. With the volume rolled back, these become almost Tele-like. In the very best way.

EDIT- Not sure what the DGT neck is; I only have specs for the bridge.

A3 in the neck and UOA5 in the bridge should wake the ol' tone monsters from their ancient slumber. I did the very same swap for a friend back in the day.

A3 is a great mag for neck humbuckers, very underappreciated. People hear it's light in the lows and mistakenly expect it to be thin. Instead it's vintage crisp, warm and sweet. My "Aha!" moment happened with a custom A3 neck pickup that James at Rewind made me a couple of years ago as a companion for his Pale Rider bridge pickup. Since then I'm a believer.

UA5 has been my go-to for a couple of bridge humbucker swaps too- perfect midpoint between A5 and A2. I have a couple of old Gibson Shaw humbuckers with stock UA5s, but if it weren't for this forum I probably would never even have heard of that mag.

i like a3 in the neck too. light in the lows is a good thing in the neck!

Re: Magnet Swap on PRS DGT Pickups

I was mistaken about the specs on the DGT bridge humbucker. The one I have detailed information about is the original Grissom/PRS bridge from the 90s; I didn't realize that design was later altered for the DGT guitars. Apparently the bridge in the DGT signature model is only wound to around 9K, and might not use the special slugs either.

I imagine it does have an A2 mag but I can't even be 100% certain of that. All PRS will divulge officially about it is that it's 9K with alnico of unspecified type.

That original Grissom treble is much closer to the old stamped ‘t’ than the new one.
Way different.

I don’t think A5 on the new ones, I get a A4 vibe.

But I’m not cracking them open and changing things to find out

I would like a bit more oomph and snap in the neck, I may pull it and put a 59 in.

+1. A3's have a lot of mids, and give a bigger, wider sound than an A5, and they don't have A5's propensity to being bassy. Agree about UOA5's too, they've become my magnet of choice for bridge HB mag swaps.
