I agree with previous comments, you might be better off selling them and buying some good Duncan pups.
That being said, you actually could try a different magnet to liven it up a bit. I never thought of the 57s being dull and lifeless, but now that you mention it perhaps that isn't a bad description. If anything, my main complaint about them was that they sounded a bit thin, (and perhaps lifeless). You could try putting in an A8 and see what you think. That will give it a tighter, stronger bass and bigger highs which would be a bit punchier and brighter but still not as shrill as you'd get with an A5 and definitely not as shill as a ceramic mag.
