Ok its pretty late, I just got back from work and I dont think I can find a magnet around here to try this out, but i was wondering in my half drunk stupor how magnets, or theoretically, vibrating magnets would affect the sound coming out of a guitar if held up to a pickup. anyone tried this or willing to try this for me considering I can't think of where I might have a magnet?

I couldnt get it to really do much :smack:
Expected. You'd have to move the magnet really fast, probably faster than humanly possible, to get a sound. Everytime you move the magnet past the pickup, the magnet moving past the coils produces electromagnetic ac electricity, but the signal is very weak. The magnet would have to move back and forth faster to make an effect... thats why power tools sound cool next to pickups :)

Re: magnets+pups=??

stuff that sends signals like garage openers, cell phones etc make cool sounds. And as for moving a magnet faster than humanly possible to get a sound, if you move anything faster than 20 times per second you get a low bass sound (has to be metal), as our hearing is from 20hz to 20khz. Magnets probably generate a different kind of sound because of the interference of fields. A cool idea would be to get some sort of vibrating item (LOL) and attach a magnet to it and put it up against the pickups.LOL!
