Magnets ( yeh again)

What happens when you put an Alnico2 in a 59?
Will it get an APH sound? or a Seth Lover type sound?
Thanks

I was wondering the same thing myself about my '59... since seths are so dang expensive...

I hear you, there is a set on E-Bay that I'm watching, but if I can get there from here, I'd rather just change the magnets and have either the Seth sound or the APH sound.

One thing that puzzles me is that the 59 is hailed as the defacto vintage replacement, but it uses a AlNiCo 5 when the early Paf's used an AlNiCo 2.
Its also what Gibson is using in the 57 Classics and Burstbuckers.
I had an APH in my Strat and I really liked it.
Any way I'll wait and see what the pros say

Re: Magnets ( yeh again)

maybe the 59 will sound like a seth with an a2, theyre made of the same kind of wire i think and their resistance is pretty similar.i was going to buy an a2p but they are not available and was significantly more expensive so i just bought a jazz and put an a2 in it rather than paying more and waiting for 6 weeks for an a2p. and the sound is very close

DC resistance wise dead in the center. The Jazzneck is 7.7k. BB1 is 7.6 with imbalenced coils like a PG. The Classic and BB2 are 8k and sound woofie on the bottom. I think that's why seymour doesn't make a vintage neck over 7.7k.
