Major PU mod's to get my Tele more useful. Techs? Thoughts?

I have an AVRI Tele Custom, 2012, double bound, tri-burst.

I don't use it as often as it should be used and I'd like to.

I want to retain a vintage character to the sound, just with more power. I'm not a twang country guy. I'm more of a country rock guy. Rich Robinson stuff.

I have been considering a hotter bridge like a Seymour Duncan "Hot For Tele".

And then a humbucker mod in the neck position.

I wonder about the wiring of that and also about the cap that would work well for both PU's.

Any techs have thoughts on this?

Appreciate the input. Eric

Hot for Tele would be good, or maybe the STL-1B Broadcaster. For neck humbuckers. I like the '59N, certainly nothing hotter than that. Of course, there's the "pots" problem you mentioned - the '59 wants 500K, but the single coil bridge want 250K.

Some people use the Jazz Neck model; it's a bit brighter than the '59, and can afford the slight loss of highs you get running a humbucker with 250K pots.

Also consider mini humbuckers and 4-way switch wiring. Tons of options with a Tele...

4 way switch is a great option (options to have both pickups in series as well as the normal parallel) the Paul Bunyan bridge tele pickup by zhangbucker is a great pickup you might also want to consider.
If you do go with a humbucker in the neck , a .033 cap could work great for both pickups.

You could also use a 500k volume pot and 250k tone, but with a 500k (or 470k) resistor going from the single coils hot wire to ground to emulate a 250k pot for that one pickup and keeping the neck humbucker "seeing" a 500k pot.

Hot for Tele works with 500k pots. It pairs well with HB and P-90. Actually I put Hot for Tele and P-90 combo in my friend's tele recently with standard 3 way switch/500k/.022. I dig the sound.

Everything the boys above have said plus I'd keep the neck widerange hb
if you don't want to swap guards on a tele custom. Any of the tapped tele
pickups from Duncan are great, I prefer the Quarter Pound, plus you can
keep the 500 pots, just roll them to tame the highs if required.
To achieve the series option as mentioned you'll need a push-pull pot
and another one to tap the bridge, whilst you're at it try another one for phasing
And yet still another one to split or parallel the neck hb.
Whilst we're at it, chuck a B5 Bigsby on it:friday:
