Make sure you give that Paul a shake before you walk out the door with it.

Got my VM yesterday,, sounded like a baby rattle(wood chips), volume pot is shot
sharp frets, fret buzz , so its going back to MF and I wont be getting another.

Gibson QC being what it may, I have more faith in it than a just about anything I read on Harmony Central.

Yes, I'm sure this is part of the vast Gibson/QC conspiracy.

I've got one of the guitars in question and mine doesn't have this problem.

Count yourself lucky then because the majority of VM owners seem to have the woodchip problem. :)

I'm all about the Custom Shop when it comes to Gibson. I've played some guitars that I didn't like as much as others but I've yet to play anything from the CS that I thought was horrible.

For the kind of money you pay for a CS Gibson, the guitar should be that good. Hell, for that kind of cash you should be able to buy 2-3 premium guitars without any defects and built exactly the way you want them! With PERFECT QC to boot.:smack:

I've had some pretty good luck with my gibsons... I have 6 of them now and all of them are practically flawless...

I agree, for that kind of money you should be able to get a great guitar and I do in fact have no problems finding good Custom Shop stuff. It's what I like and I don't mind spending the money for it.

I know it's not for everyone but I feel like cheap foreign made guitars are well, cheap. I've owned a few and never felt there was any reason to keep them. Some people love them and that's their thing, I don't feel the need to rip them because I feel the hardware or electronics are cheap. I just keep my mouth shut and move on, I'm not going to rain on anyones parade.

a) There is no perfect QC anywhere.

b) If you ever go to a real luthier to get 3 or even 2 premium guitars to your custom specs for $3,000, you are in for a big surprise. Most won't even make one custom guitar for that.

c) If you pay $3,000 for a guitar that you never played first, you deserve to get ripped off. I don't care who made it.

I depends. I know a luthier who fabricates and hand builds aluminum-necked guitars for base price of $1450, a custom options would run far below $2k. My aluminum necked was build for considerably less than that. There are some great deals to be had with small builders...no such thing as a "deal" with the big guys- there is always a catch.

QC only means that quality is controlled. It does not mean or imply that the quality is controlled to a high level.

And how do we know that? Because a handful (or even a few handfuls) of people post about this online out of the probably tens of thousands of people that have bought these guitars, if not more? The dissatisfied scream loudest, and for all we know this could be a problem with a very, very small percentage of these guitars.

Don't get me wrong, I'm as aware of Gibson's QC issues as anyone else, and it took an exceptional piece to get me to buy one, but none of the nine of these guitars I personally tried at my local GC had this problem. I'm not saying it's not strange I just wonder how widespread it really is.

Yeah, you can't generalize like that. We could say that the three of us here that I know of (myself, FretFire, and JumpMarine) don't have the rattle so it must be the minority that has the problem.

That said, it isn't just the VM's that have it - some higher end ones evidently do also

If you change your mind and wanna give 'em another try, shop here. They'll check it out for you as opposed to just grabbing a box off the shelf and shipping it. It's where I got mine. They're still $699 w/Gibson hardshell case.

i just wish Gibson would not drill these weight relief holes.... i like my Pauls heavy....

Re: Make sure you give that Paul a shake before you walk out the door with it.

I got worried about my VM right after ordering it and reading about the rattles. No issues with mine at all. I'm guessing that it hasn't happened nearly as much as some would make you believe.

Re: Make sure you give that Paul a shake before you walk out the door with it.

10 years from now everyone will be talking about how the wood chips "added to the tone"...
