Re: Make the call, Strat or Tele

Strats suit me more so than teles. I love the clean sounds you get out of a strat, and the note manipulation you can achieve with a trem.

I also like having two seperate tone controls (middle one modded to middle+bridge with no load on 10 like on the new Am Stds), as I find I use them quite a bit on my strat on a clean sound.

I just find that strats give me more scope to shape my sound than a tele, and I find them more comfortable to play.

Re: Make the call, Strat or Tele

I honestly don't know what to vote. I really need to play more of each type. From what I already played, I know that if I am to buy another guitar it will be a tele or a strat.

A few month ago I would have tele without a doubt, but I'm not sure anymore, everything is confusing, there are so many great axe out there...:yell: :yell: :yell:

Tele!

I really like the sound of Strats... when someone else plays them.

PS - post 1,000!!!

Re: Make the call, Strat or Tele

I vote Tele, with an HB at the bridge. This entire post may be heresy to some, but I cannot stand the vibrato bar, the volume knob's position, the extra string pull, and the ugly output jack on the Strat.

My next guitar may be a Tele style guitar. I love the white pearloid and tooled leather pickguards you can get for them.

Re: Make the call, Strat or Tele

I believe you can play a few of each and make the call yourself.

Most players seem to vibe more with one or the other.

IMO, strats are more versatile, but at what? So, the question becomes, what music do you want to play?

I consider myself a strat player mostly, but I am haunted by something Scott Lentz told a friend of mine when he ordered a T model:
"One out of ten strat orders are from good players, and nine out of ten tele orders are from good players."

this is something Lew has referred to several times ... teles are more work, and require more focus. As with many things, with more effort comes more satisfaction.

IMO, strats have a great neck tone, and unique tone in the notch positions. Teles have a lot to do with the bridge pickup, and the balance between the bridge and neck pickup.

The argument itself is a testament to the practical genius of Leo Fender, and the design contributions of those around him.

Re: Make the call, Strat or Tele

They both have there place and I love them both for their individual personalities. Early on I had a love/hate relationship with the Stat because of the placement of the volume. That has since past and I LOVE strats. But I still have my Tele.......not my Strat.......but I want another Strat.......and Tele.....and LP......and Strat...........ARRRRRGGGGHHHHH

So I have basically told you absolutely nothing......LOL!

Curly, I think you are onto something.

Amazing thing about this totally unscientific poll, at this moment there have been about 40 votes and its split essentially 50/50, which is what I had guessed would happen. It seems it's almost like flipping a coin if you like Fender guitars, 1/2 go for the strat & 1/2 go for the tele. At this point, the tele vibe has got a hold of me and not letting go.

It did seem to me that the tele is more of the "players" guitar, your anecdote about that is interesting. I think that owes to the fact that the strat has become more iconic in the public's mind than the tele, so more beginners go for it, but I think the tele seems to maybe have a bit more mystique about it, there is just "something" about it.

It's the simplicity and yet in the right hands can make a woman drop her drawers. :bigok:

Re: Make the call, Strat or Tele

I'm a tele guy myself. I just dig the looks and the simplicity of the tele over the strat. I don't like having any equipment where I won't use all that it has to offer.

The strat was very good for blues with the notch positions, but that's it for my taste. The tele has more balls in the bridge position, the middle position is the perfect rhythm strumming tone and the neck does some nice blues runs by itself. The tele doesn't overdo anything. You've got a 3-way (all with unique usable tones), a volume and a tone. I love that simplicity, but it covers plenty of ground (which is stuff like LP Juniors and single humbucker metal guitars can't do).

For me, I'm a Gibson guy and the Telecaster is the one thing Fender makes that I can completely dig.

Re: Make the call, Strat or Tele

I would have to give up the round versatility of the strat for the distinctiveness and response of the tele.

Re: Make the call, Strat or Tele

I ahve more experiance with strats. I ahve heard some sweet teles but for whrere i am at i voted strat. Who knows someday i may own a tele but it will be an american tele.

Strat!

...but then again, if I didn't play rock/metal, I might not say Strat. Depends on the music you're playing.

Re: Make the call, Strat or Tele

Strat for me by default. Never really got into teles - doesn't fit my style of music.
