Makeover Epi LP - Under the Black Flag

High Voltologist
Can't leave well enough alone

I was selling this guitar just to try and make some room, mentally anyway, and I got a lowball offer that kind of annoyed me. So instead of selling it I decided to make it a fun mutt. Ripped out the pickups again and put in a Custom 5 with vol/tone and a jack, with an Orange Drop cap. I was going to do Blackbeard's flag on it when I looked in my bookcase and saw Under the Black Flag and felt inspired. Totally love the Jr-ish vibe and I've kind of wanted a one pickup LP so......

Calico Jack Rackham's flag design that I cut out of some vinyl sheet

Looks like a straight ahead rocker. I like it.

Yeah that is kind of my lot in life

I did the vinyl to see how I liked it. I think it works perfectly for the guitar so I'll bust out the One Shot and a brush and make it permanent.

I'd throw a couple of Celtic Cross chrome knobs on there. And a Sailor Jerry rum sticker on the headstock....

Looks cool.

By the way, an Orange Drop sounds no different from any other cap of the same value. Caps are caps when used in passive tone controls.

Definitely looks cool.

I don't mind orange drops because they're still fairly inexpensive and good quality. When people start talking Russian PIO caps for a hundred bucks is where I squint my eyes.

I'm not re-wiring and putting **** in

Re: Makeover Epi LP - Under the Black Flag

Guitarist in my band ended up with this and wanted a few tweaks

I dropped in an old Schecter/Schaller made crazy hot neck pickup that works remarkably well in that slot. Re-did the wiring to accommodate 2 vol/1 tone and put a 3-way back in place of where the neck tone would've been, which works perfectly for him. I also pulled out an old butnut kustom toggle ring I had and added a Custom guard which I thought I'd hate but kind of dig. I swapped the reflectors for black speed knobs as well.

This guitar crushes, the Trad Pro line was really good. I have a goldtop here now that I am doing a quick setup on and a possible pickup swap.
