Selling my Epi LP... what to get next?

I don't know that the PRS s2 guitars are a better deal than just upgrading an SE Model. The s2's have scarf joints and have the same hardware and pickups as the SE models do. Your basically paying the extra money for it to be made at the USA PRS factory with cost cutting methods. I would just upgrade a SE Model myself.

Yeah... have had bad experiences with PRS SE. I'd be willing to give the SE McCarthy a try, but at the same time, I'm kinda dubious. I mean, it's going for a Gibson-y vibe, right? But it has the 10" fretboard that I don't like and I don't like PRS "Pattern" necks. Or at least the Wide Fat. The Wide Thin is nice, and I could forgive the 10" fretboard on that one, but I don't know what the Pattern Vintage is like. At that point, I don't know what the advantage of getting one would be over an actual Gibson (even if it's a lowly Tribute) or an S2 Custom 24 Satin. I would prefer a Custom 24 SE. Or one of the new CE SE's. But I like the satin finishes on the cheapie S2's, TBH.

I tried one PRS SE 10 years ago
i didnt get along well with the wide thin neck

Dang guess i should just give up PRS as well

I didnt get along with the wide/thin neck either...but my issue was that it didn't stay in tune at all.

I like the Wide Thin. I can play the Wide Fat (though I'd rather not, LOL). My issue is not that I don't like their necks. Is that their QC (IME) is not as good as everyone makes it out to be.

Plus people tend to be super critical of the Edge III and the cheaper Floyd Roses, but tend to look past the fact that PRS also cheaps out on the hardware on the SE series.

Another thing is I would rather have a solid finish at that price point than taking a gamble getting a poorly figured top. Or a body with multiple misaligned seams and a see-through finish to make it even more evident. My Esquire is like that, but my Esquire is cheap. Even if I can mostly look past it, it still kinda bothers me at times, TBH. I would prefer it if at least the seam was in the middle of the body or something. Not like at random spots of the width of the guitar. Or if at least they made it more subtle, kinda like what they do on the Gibbo Tributes or the S2's.

JMO.

My only SE played well and stayed in tune just fine. But it'd had a PRS USA nut installed.
The tuning trouble might not be mostly with the import trems, I think, but with the import nuts.
The import humbuckers were definitely lackluster though.

Not necessarily saying the cheap trem sustained as well as my core models.
But that's a more complicated issue since the neck wood is an important factor too.
Body wood as well, I think, though to a much lesser extent.

If you don't care for what's on the headstock..something 'Cort' for maximum bang for the buck.. :bigthumb:

If you want a Gibson, you can't get a better one than the Studio. Best bang for the buck Gibson available. (Plus they don't have that stupid Gibson neck binding).

I like the neck binding. I don't need the neck binding. But I like the neck binding. I just don't like the burst finishes on the Standards, nor do I need the flamed maple top. I like the flamed maple top, but I think solid finishes are elegant as well. That's why I really want a Classic. It's got the body thickness of a Standard, but it's stramlined like a Studio.

But I also want a wine red Studio. Or a white Studio with the gold hardware, but I don't think those are being currently made?
