Making my first board need advice

Re: Making my first board need advice

The 'trouble' with pedal boards, is once you're addicted, they keep changing....growing, then shrinking; brand X only pedals, then brands A B and C; then "I need one more"; etc. etc. So whatever you choose to do, keep 'change' in mind. Pedaltrain provides several sizes with good versatility (but not cheap either).
I finally returned to simplicity, limiting myself to a 3 pedal, home made board. That was the answer for me and my current situation.

I really like this approach. What are the dimensions of the decking lumber you used? (__" x __")

Re: Making my first board need advice

I think it's about 1-3/4" x 1/2".

Re: Making my first board need advice

My other guitar player uses one of those. Really makes setup and transport easy.

I use a bunch of pedals, and this was really cheap/easy to make:

Wood, glue, and velcro. Paint & done!

Re: Making my first board need advice

I found lumber in 1-3/4" x 1/2" today. The only thing I can do is build a pedal board out of it and hope it holds up one of those double-wide old Duncan pedals.

Re: Making my first board need advice

I'm starting to think that the point of a pedal board is not to have every pedal you own on it. It looks like my "full boat" pedal board would be about 4-1/2 feet wide. This wouldn't bother me if part of me didn't really want every single pedal on it.

Or in my case, "gigs". ;)

I've known this intellectually for years, but actually going through the process myself and figuring out what's necessary and what isn't... quickly becomes daunting.

Re: Making my first board need advice

I am *totally* building a pedal board now, with gibson175's great design as the basis. More later.

Great to see the Deja Vu on the board here. Have you seen the new delay called the Vapor Trail?

What do you put it in for transport?

Re: Making my first board need advice

Just letting you know, I have the smaller three pedal Boss BC30 (?). I recently got one pedal bigger than the Boss pedals. The little plastic tabs that hold the pedal can be cut off very easily with a razor blade. That is exactly what I did and all fits perfectly and the box still closes. Also, if larger pedals can't fit next to each other because of connectors, they can also move forward and backwards usually enough to get everything to fit. Granted, there ain't much room....but if you have a fairly close fit the mods are easy and can work.

Re: Making my first board need advice

Mine's not a good candidate for a thread of its own, as I really don't know what I'm going to do next.

Here is my plan for the board I want to build. I haven't cut any wood as of yet just still in the drawing board phase.
