Re: Making Neck HB's Brighter
Cause pickups arent headphones? I can take my dial calipers and I can measure the difference between 1.001 inch and 1.002 inch but I cannot see the difference just by looking. Same here just because it shows as a difference on a spectrum analyzer doesnt mean its an audible difference. Also keep in mind I said it was "of questionable value" I did not say it was completely invalid. The difficult part is quantifying in the real world what you are measuring. Also a spectrum analysis is only 1 piece its one way to look at it and measure it but not the only way. Now are you interested in what you can measure or what you can hear? If your into stuff you can measure knock yourself out. For my own use I only want what I can hear.
This reminds of a few years ago I ported a set of cylinder heads for a guy and I gave him the numbers off my flow bench for them. Later he had another shop flow them and he called me about the results the other bench gave a higher measurement than mine. I told the customer this was great but do we race flow benches or do we race cars?
Do we look at pickups or do we play them and listen to them?
Headphones and other audio equipment are reviewed and analyzed using a similar process. I don't see how/why a spectrum analyzer is so invalid for pickups. Please explain.
