Man, those Edwards LP's/335's sure are tempting

Re: Man, those Edwards LP's/335's sure are tempting

Honestly, all the Edwards are given the famous Japanese honor-code driven attention to quality and detail. I'd put my Edwards LP Custom up against any modern-production Gibson any day (except Historics, etc. since I've never played one and don't wanna talk out of my ass). My Edwards Alexi Laiho V is one of the most stable, solid, best-playing guitars I've ever owned.

Unbeatable value.

+1, Yeah Edawards are a unbeatable value and I would put them up against ANY off the shelf Gibson. Edwards knows how to make a great guitar. The Edwartds I have had expereince with I have only had to plug in a play. No setup, fret dressing, no working with the nut.

Joe, I wouldnt hesitate to order one of these. Well, it might make your other LP"s look bad though but, it will knock your d1ckel in the dirt on account of how high quality they are.

Re: Man, those Edwards LP's/335's sure are tempting

I gotta admit I'm not the biggest of LP fans, but I do for see an Edwards Custom in black and a Honyeburst standard in my near future. The JB/59 setups will be tossed by the way side though.

Then again, I'm still pretty stuck on finding a Studio in fireburst and I've actually found an R9 that I'd almost be willing to chuck the 5k at if I had it in my hands right now.

Re: Man, those Edwards LP's/335's sure are tempting

I really dig my Edwards guitars :) I want to get an lp standard or a strat next:

Re: Man, those Edwards LP's/335's sure are tempting

whats the difference between standard series and laquer select? I want the explorer from laquer select LOL!

Re: Man, those Edwards LP's/335's sure are tempting

The only diff between the standard and "lacquer taste" models is the finish. The lacquer ones have a thinner finish. It's a thin layer of poly as a grain sealer and then a light lacquer finish over that. There is no clear topcoat. It's a good-feeling finish and I expect it to wear nicely over time.

Re: Man, those Edwards LP's/335's sure are tempting

Someone said on another forum that they are all nitro finished and not poly? I like the finish on my gibson goth... it is thin and easily "worn"! I just want to find as much as I can.

So which ones are nitro then? I was under the impression that the top of the line Edwards were nitro.

I wanna get an edwards custom in black as my next guitar, I'm just not sure if it's all that practical seeing as I have 2 lp guitars as it is. I might just get the edwards so I can have another pup combo. I know I'm not the only guy here with more than one lp, (Jolly).

speaking of Katana Guitars, I found this one at their website. Looking at it, I'm reminded of John Sykes/Whitesnake/Blue Murder.

I'm loving mine.

Excellent guitars.
Top notch fit and finish.
No fret buzz.
nice low action.
Very solid feel.
The Sykes has the SD Distortions.
So, it's definitely got more growl. Great for hard rock and metal.
If your looking for blues or classic rock tones go with the
regular E-LP92cd or lp95lt. 59/jb combo I believe.

I bought through Ishibashi.
http://www.ishibashi.co.jp/webshop/guitar/esp/edwards/index.htm

Stores are usually a bit cheaper than Ebay.
But, you may have to wait for the model you want to be in stock.

Other stores.
I haven't tried them.

Ikebe may or may not ship to USA.
I'm hearing mixed reports.

As mentioned Edwards are MIJ and fall in the ESP ranking between
ESP Standard series and the LTD Deluxe series.
But, on the scale fall much closer to ESP standard.

Even though the average Korean and Chinese stuff is getting better everyday,
I still don't think they match Japan.
Closest I've seen quality wise were Conklin groove tools and Brian Moore i2000.
But, then your paying more than you would have if you would have just ordered a mij from Japan.

ESPs MIJ products stand on their own merits.
The are professional grade instruments
My Edwards Sykes gets me the tones I'm looking for and plays great.

The Edwards Jimmy page relics I believe are all lacquer.
You won't see them on the ESP japan site.
But, will see them in the stores I've posted and on Ebay.
They are the top of the line of the Edwards replicas.
Next step would be ESP Navigator.

XXXplorer, I'm going to be straight up and honest.

When you go for Explorers and Vs, your not really saving anything by going MIJ.
You should be able to find a new Gibson Explorer for around $900.
You just have to do some shopping.

I got my '07 Explorer Pro new for $899 locally.
pdr1129yr1.jpg

It's a great guitar.
The '07 Gibson have been getting great review as far as QC goes.
My exp pro is a great example of it.

So, again I think the Gibby Explorers and Vs are still a great bang for the buck.

Beside build quality, it's the difference in price between MIJ LP standards, SG RIs, and 335 Semi-hollows and the real deals that make the MIJ the better deal imho.

So, it makes you wonder why the MIJ builders sell all their replicas for around the same price.
But, Gibson has such a price gap between it's Explorers and LPs.
Demand most likely. But, still.

The technical assesment is mostly correct but I respectfully disagree with the rest :)

I think the "lacquer taste" finish looks horrible, is the worst feeling finish I've encountered and it was far from thin on my edwards. 'member the old wax candies? with some kind of colored sugar syrup in 'em? Well that "wax" part is what the lacquer taste feels like, and is slightly cloudy. I could barely see the grain on the back of my Edwards. I'd get the standard Poly if I were to buy another.

My Tokai's poly finish was MUCH thinner and how a finish should be done..

Re: Man, those Edwards LP's/335's sure are tempting

Yeah, I was just starting to notice that I wont save anything by getting an Edwards explorer. But I have always wanted a les paul, so that is the paul I will get. Wierd how the prices work.

Let me get this straight, is the laquer (sp?) taste series nitro or not? I'm mainly asking about the E-LP-98LTC, that's the one I've been lusting after.

Re: Man, those Edwards LP's/335's sure are tempting

Thanks for the drawning but which is the Edwards of the three and what model it is?

The first two are the edwards guitars and the models are written inside :) The last one is a gibson sg standard.

Too bad. Mine's actually really nice.
