Man, those Edwards LP's/335's sure are tempting

Re: Man, those Edwards LP's/335's sure are tempting

agreed, keith - can't tell from that

the cherry burst nitro top one (#008) a few guitars down from the gold top has me interested but cautious .. it says :
The BODY:Thin laminated Maple top/Solid mahogany/1piece Solid Mahogany Back.

i wouldve thought that it would be :
The BODY:Thin laminated Maple top/Solid MAPLE/1piece Solid Mahogany Back.

cant beat the $680 price - even with $125 for shipping, it is a great price if the guitar is happenin

I would've expected it to say "Thin laminated maple top/1-piece solid mahogany back."

The top is either a solid piece or a laminate, right?

as i was thinking about it, i wouldve thought it would be a 'pretty' thin laminate of maple over top of a thicker piece of maple, then that over top of mahogany ... i'd want the thicker maple top like a 'real' LP and a 'regular' thickness of mahogany back .. if it was just a pretty laminate of maple over a mostly mahogany guitar, i do not think it would have the same tonal properties as i would expect from a LP .. it would be too much mahogany and not enough maple for my tastes

Re: Man, those Edwards LP's/335's sure are tempting

Yeah, seems strange to have thin maple laminate/solid mahogany top, 1-piece mahogany back. Email him -- see if the description is in error.

That's an error on the website.

Your thoughts are correct - those models have a maple top of almost-regular thickness, plus a flamed maple laminate veneer that makes up the difference.

For whatever reason, Katana's website doesn't list specs in the same way as all the other Japanese-based retailers (nor like the general online knowledge pool on these guitars).

LT denotes a lacquer (sometimes referred to as "nitro") topcoat to the finish. If you see "LTC" somewhere, like my guitar - "E-LP-98LTC" - the "C" just stands for "Custom," I assume.

E-LP-98LTC:

E = Edwards
LP = Les Paul
98 = Model specification (trim level)
LT = "Lacquer Taste" finish
C = "Custom"

For another example - this guitar is called the E-JR-85LT:

89008_b.gif

E = Edwards
JR = Junior
85 = Model specification
LT = Lacquer Taste

See the pattern?

Re: Man, those Edwards LP's/335's sure are tempting

its a thin maple veneer over a maple cap and mahogany body if its a see through finish (i.e flamey/quilty)

They at one time had a 57 black beauty that was all mahogany (i.e. no maple cap), but the regular customs are maple over mahogany.

go to www.espguitars.co.jp and then click on Edwards over on the left. There you can see the models and which series is which.

And ignore Katanas website..its out of date..click on the ebay link there and you'll see what he has in stock.

Re: Man, those Edwards LP's/335's sure are tempting

Re: Man, those Edwards LP's/335's sure are tempting

If anyone here doesn't want to see a massive inventory of Japanese (and other) manufacturer's guitars broken down by brand name with full, detailed specs and tons of pictures...

DO NOT click this link....

Re: Man, those Edwards LP's/335's sure are tempting

I hate yall man. I need another guitar like I need another freakin hole in my head. However, some of those sure are tempting. I love that Sykes model and the '56.

Re: Man, those Edwards LP's/335's sure are tempting

Katana charges $20 less for the axe, and $50 less for shipping.

If Jeff is correct, and Katana's website is out of date, then I don't think he carries the axe I want anyway. :(

Go to his ebay store...his ebay ID is mijsixstringskatana or something like that.

Re: Man, those Edwards LP's/335's sure are tempting

Yeah, it's not listed on eBay under his ID. :(

His stock rotates alot. Sometimes he has plenty of goldtops, then doesnt have them for quite some time. Same with every model Edwards. Shoot him an email, he's a really nice fellow, and his english is pretty good.

I just emailed him by way of his online form. In the meantime, guess I'll keep my fingers. crossed. :)

I with the J man here. Threads like this should be shut down on principle. The principle that we as guitar junkies can't help ourselves when we see this kinda stuff.

Re: Man, those Edwards LP's/335's sure are tempting

BAH!

I'm selling off other gear just to finance this purchase. It's not like I'm pulling money from some secret stash. I don't have the cash for an Edwards guitar, but I want one, so I have to sell off other things I feel I don't (or won't) use as much as the Edwards.
