Maple body vs maple neck-thru

a question for you (of course :smack: ) :

I have 2 maple neck-thru guitars (Jackson RR with poplar wings and an ESP Horizon with alder wings) and a Jackson dinky with maple body (solid).

In the RR I have the Custom/Jazz-combination which I like very much for metal. Now I was wondering, if I'd put a custom in the Dinky, how much would it differ from the RR sound? Do the (poplar) wings affect the overall sound a lot or is it mainly influenced by the wood the elements are put on (maple (neck-thru))

I had the distortion in the dinky first, and it was really heavy (bassy rhythms) with plenty of distortion but to bright for soloing, now, it's in the Horizon and it seems tighter but less bassy. Will the Custom in the Dinky/RR also give that difference as the Distortion in the Dinky/Horizon?

Hope you understand my worry...

Also, how would the hot rails be in the dinky (full maple body)? Can it be compared to the Jazz (overdriven!) in the RR?
I'm a little afraid maple bodies and pups with ceramic bars don't mix well together...I have the cool rails in the dinky and it's 'cool' indeed, I'd like it a little more warm sounding.

Thanks!

Re: Maple body vs maple neck-thru

The easiest way to describe the difference would be to play both guitars unplugged.....listen real well (or even hold your ear to the body...play a while, get a feel for the acoustic and expressive differences......

And that´s pretty much exactly what the difference will be when they have the same pickup in them ;)
