Maple Guitar JB vs Screamin Demon

Re: Maple Guitar JB vs Screamin Demon

I love the Baretta debate.

I think we were agreeing more than debating.

and if you are asking about C or the CC in maple, go with the CC. if you want something like the CC, but a little more open and less compressed, go for the '78

still, when it comes to the OP, I'll stick by the JB from the options given for the 80s Kramer sound...since Kramer was using the JB from the mid-80s until then closed down. but then when you want to talk about the brown sound, that's a totally different thing. you can get it with the JB, but you gotta have the right amp and effects. throw a spin-a-split on the JB and you can fine tune that tone even closer.

Re: Maple Guitar JB vs Screamin Demon

I mainly just want to bring out the best sound I can out of this thing. Not as concerned as much with matching a certain sound. Brown and Barwtta seem to be good possibilities. I'm leaning JB or CC.

Re: Maple Guitar JB vs Screamin Demon

Going to go with the JB, should sound great. Go down to 300K or 250K if necessary but I think you'll like it.

Re: Maple Guitar JB vs Screamin Demon

I am really a fan of Demons in the neck, but for what you are after, I think you'll be happier with a JB and a 250-300k vol pot.

Here is the guitar in question. Made by me in 1992. Pre-internet so very little resources. It has an ESP second neck, with one dull colored dot marker. It originally had Schaller pickups that I got when Victor Litz was selling factory stock from Kramer going out of business. Maybe I should try one of those in it. It has a licensed Floyd that has traditional Allen screw height adjustment for each saddle. It has a PAF Pro in the neck and a 70s Dimarzio Super distortion in the bridge. The Super D was in bad shape so I am not sure if it sounds the way it is supposed to. It may be "aired" as they say. The guitar was a lot of fun to build. I don't play it as much because it is super heavy and I am more of vintage style guy these days. I would like to get it sounding as I good as I can though.

Re: Maple Guitar JB vs Screamin Demon

I have a maple bodied, maple/rosewood bolt neck, floyd guitar. I may have on opportunity to get a JB or Screamin Demon. What would sound better? Looking for that 80's Kramer/brown sound thing. Thoughts? Any other pickup? PAT3b seems to be out of ny price range.

Custom Custom would be perfect for that.

With all the responses about a JB with a 250k pot though, that could be worth a shot too.

I tend to think the Custom Custom would be the choice, the common mid high spike of the JB combined with a hard wood body like yours could be difficult to handle in some rig, but you have to experiment

I have never weighed it but, likes its owner, quite hefty. Good for unruly fans. I think it heavier than a solid Les Paul. Its probably Pacific Maple rather than Eastern Hard Rock.
