maple laminates

Does anyone know what's the advantage/disadvantage of using maple laminates in guitar bodies?

Advantages can be: Nice looking top if you get one flamed or quilted.

Neutrals: If you get a thicker top (typically about a quarter of an inch is enough to make a difference) It can add a bit of brightness to the sound. This works really well on mahogony-bodied guitars, which is the classic les paul configuration.

Disadvantages: Cant think of any. Could push up the price of the guitar, thats about it.

Thanks a lot! I've been looking for the answer all over the web for the past few weeks with no success. Even asked ibanez since my guitar with a maple laminate body is an artcore with a floating neck pick-up but no reply came.
