Re: Maple or RW Strats only What do you like

I prefer rosewood, yet my favorite strat (G&L, S-500) has a maple neck.

Maypull/Maple

Though I was just thinking: Wouldn't a maple f.b. on a mahogany neck be the breasts!

Re: Maple or RW Strats only What do you like

My Grosh has a maple neck with rosewood fb. My G&L Skyhawk has an all maple neck. I like them both. However, the G&L has a vibe I just can't ignore and I dig the looks of maple necks, so I choose maple.

Re: Maple or RW Strats only What do you like

I like both maple and rosewood, can't really pick a favorite.

The few strats that I have played with ebony boards were cool, but I prefer the traditional fingerboard woods.

Re: Maple or RW Strats only What do you like

I Like maple fretboards.... I've had 'em on my strat, tele, washburn, etc....
I've also had several guitars with rosewood, Ibanez, ESP, washburn, etc....
I have friends that prefer rosewood and I have friends that are too stupid to tell the difference, ha ha. If I had a choice I would play guitars with maple fretbaods, but I like some rosewoods too, and ebony is kool, I've just never owned a guitar with ebony.

Re: Maple or RW Strats only What do you like

I love the feel and playability of an all Maple C Shaped Neck the most.

Re: Maple or RW Strats only What do you like

I'm like John: I like them both! I have a few Strats and it's about 50/50 maple vs. rosewood.

Re: Maple or RW Strats only What do you like

i like rosewood FRETBOARDS, and maple NECKS

never actually seen a strat with a rosewood or ebony NECK actually

Re: Maple or RW Strats only What do you like

Maple.

I love the feel of them (rosewood can sometimes feel a bit rough to me). I also love the characteristic "dirtying up" of a maple fretboard, where it wears away after a couple years of playing...and bending strings, etc. That look is just way too cool...and while it happens on every fretboard, it's only visibly noticeable on maple.

I don't really get into the "tonality" aspect of either one, although the maple is slightly brighter. Tonewoods (whether neck or body)...always seem "adjustable" in your tone circuit anyway, so whichever one FEELS the best...is the one I'd recommend.

i have both maple and rosewood. I don't have a preference. On my teles though i have to have maple all the way

Re: Maple or RW Strats only What do you like

My first "real" electric had maple (Gibson Marauder). Ever since then I've owned only rosewood. When I started playing Strats I still had only rosewood. Every time I tried a maple board it felt "sticky", IMO. So, I was anti-maple all the way. In July I bought a new MIA Strat with maple because of the color and the low price.

My guess is that the "stickiness" was just sweat, dust, and gunk which accumulated on fretboards while the guitars were in the music store. My new one was also sticky, but once I took it home and cleaned it up it was smooth as silk! I've seen the light...now I'm a maple-lover!

Re: Maple or RW Strats only What do you like

I dont actually own a fender but, I am building a tele with an Ebony board. I prefer ebony over rosewood and maple. I would choose rosewood over maple though.

Re: Maple or RW Strats only What do you like

i own both maple and rosewood guitars but i really can't decide.....i like maple for looks and rosewood for warmth and feel....

Re: Maple or RW Strats only What do you like

This turned out just like I thought it would. I need to get a job and get a few of each

Re: Maple or RW Strats only What do you like

I never quite understood why companies would put ebony on maple. To me it's an insanely bright combination. I could see it if maybe the guitar was pure mahogany or basswood, but when I see guitars like Zion's with an ash body/maple cap, it makes me cringe.
