Periphery is an American band from Maryland. Formed in 2005 and known for their triple-guitar attack, rhythmic dexterity and soaring melodies, they are considered one of the pioneers of the djent movement within progressive metal. The band was formed by guitarist Misha Mansoor, who gained a reputation on various on-line forums and through his regularly updated Soundclick account.

Mark Holcomb joined Periphery in 2011 and played on the band’s second album, Periphery II: This Time It’s Personal and subsequent recordings including the band’s new double album release, Juggernaut: Alpha and Juggernaut: Omega which debuted at debuted at Nos. 15 and 16 respectively on the U.S. Billboard 200.

Mark and the band have been very busy of late and we had a short window of time for this exclusive Q&A session. Mark will be on hand to discuss his new PRS guitar that comes with his signature Seymour Duncan Alpha and Omega model pickups, as well as his other gear, life as a working musician, his uncanny ability to do voice impersonations, and other topics.

Joining Mark in this Q&A is Keith Merrow--co-founder of Conquering Dystopia, studio guitar player, songwriter, producer, engineer, gear demonstrator, student, teacher, and Seymour Duncan employee. Keith worked closely with Mark on the voicing of the Alpha and Omega pickups and will be on hand for the Q&A.

Dang. I have one of Marks signature guitars on order and would love to check this out. Sadly, I will be at work when this transpires. :(

Shhhh... I'm on my work computer... LOL

Even when I can't use a computer at work I've got Tapatalk installed on my Moto X. It's available for both Android and iOS devices, so maybe that can get you in on the action.

Re: Mark Holcomb (Periphery) Q&A with Special Guest Keith Merrow - June 22

Can we post questions for it here right now, or do we need to wait until the day of?

Re: Mark Holcomb (Periphery) Q&A with Special Guest Keith Merrow - June 22

I don't know that this thread would get swamped, but I wonder if maybe it's disrespectful to carry out a time and date Q&A in absentia.

Re: Mark Holcomb (Periphery) Q&A with Special Guest Keith Merrow - June 22

Usually these Q&As go pretty fast with the guest struggling to keep up with all the questions. If, however, there's a lull in the questions and we find ourselves looking for something to answer, I will go to this thread and pull out a question or two. No promises. But feel free to post a question here and there's a small chance it'll make it into the Q&A.

Sorry for the false rumor that this Q&A was going to be postponed again. After some discussion, we're back on for June 22 in the Pickup Lounge. See you there!

Technology is a wonderful thing.

If you can't make it for the live Q&A and you want to post a question here, please do so. I can't guarantee it'll be addressed. But if we have time, I'll bring it into the Q&A.

Re: Mark Holcomb (Periphery) Q&A with Special Guest Keith Merrow - June 22

I'm looking forward to chatting with you guys!

So, what's the food like on the plain, Keith? LOL

What was the idea going in with the Alpha/Omega set and how many prototypes did you guys go through before you hit the target? Any surprises along the way?
