Mark Knopflers Strat

Re: Mark Knopflers Strat

I think he uses Suhrs and vintage pickups, and has been recently quoted as wanting to distance himself from the EMG's. I dunno where I read it, but it makes sense, since he's digging the vintage stuff most.

For amps, he's also distancing himself from the Soldano SLO 100 he was always known for using, and is now using a boutique Fender copy, a Tone King Comet 40 and his old tweed amps.

Re: Mark Knopflers Strat

He's endorsing Fender Texas Specials...but that's not what he used for any of his classic recordings.

I believe the pickups in his original vintage Strat (the red one with the finish that shrunk and cracked exposing the white primer) would've been vintage 50's or early 60's Fender pickups...like those SRV used. Around 6K...no hotter.

Lindy Fralin Vintage Hots have been his faves for a long time and that's what Mark Knopfler used in most of his Pensa Suhrs...tho he did also use the EMG's a bit.

I love and use the Fralins too...the 3% underwound version of the Vintage Hots.

The Fralins and the Duncan Antiquity Surfers are my very favorites for getting that classic Knopfler and SRV Strat tone...sound just like the pickups in my '63 Strat but better!
