Marshal jtm 45 RI or 1987x 'plexi' RI?

Re: Marshal jtm 45 RI or 1987x 'plexi' RI?

They are SUPA loud. I use a Power Brake with my 1987 RI. I can get a lot of gain out of it by cranking the amp volume and pulling the brake volume down, but the tone gets real thin. I still have to crank up the brake quite a a bit to get it to sound like it's supposed to, and by then it's too loud for practical home use.

You really have to run 'em "hot" for the best sound, brake or not.

The 1987 RI is actually modeled after an early 70's 50 Watt head, so it's got higher gain and is more edgy, but still has a very "classic" sound.

And yeah, Michael Schenker has always been a 50 watt user...Thats why I bought the 1987 instead of the 1959 :D

Every amp I own I have modded to some extent. If you know what you're doing, mods or tweaks are well worth the effort. I think the JTM-45 is more like 40 or 45 watts. Lew
