Marshall 2553

Do these amps come also with a Black Tolex + Gold Panel version?

My internet search told me they're supposed to be "mini-stack" Silver Jubilees, but I couldn't find a silver jubilee with a gold panel? Even the black tolex versions still have the chrome panel.

Thanks!

Re: Marshall 2553

I know some of the Jubilees were issued in black tolex after 1987, but I've never seen a black 2553 or one with a gold panel. Here's my grey / silver one......

Re: Marshall 2553

I have a Marshall 2554 (1-12 Combo), which uses the same circuit as this amp.

The combo made it easy to carry to gigs and still have that Marshall tone.

However, as with this particular series of Marshall amps, weak input jack and pots - hard wired to the circuit board make this a difficult amp to repair.

87 was the 25th Anniversary Silver Jubilee amps. In 88, they continued making them with black/gold, until they ran out of parts. I've seen more of those 2555 heads than the others, but they do exist. I've seen 1 or 2 black/gold 2553's on Ebay. The combos too.

They all had Drake transformers.

those drake transformers are good, i suppose?

the silver jubilees would have more gain than the jcm800s right?

thanks!

Re: Marshall 2553

They have way more gain than a 2204 800, but the 2205 800's have more gain than the 2204. The Jubilee is high gain in my opinion. Most Jubilee's sound very good, better than both the two JCM800 types, in my opinion.

Re: Marshall 2553

more gain means that i don't need a pedal to get about the same amount of gain that zakk has right? that's good news to me.

somebody is selling a 2553 with a 2x12 cab at a good price, but the seller is like 6 hours away from where i am.

I saw a picture of Black Label Society from 1999 or 2000 with Zakk using a pair of Jubilee heads in addition to his 2203s. Running a high output pickup (I have SH-5s in my live guitars) into my Jubilee, I can get a Zakk / Ozzy sound with the gain cranked and no boost pedal. I like my 2555 so much that I've been contemplating getting another one just to have a backup. I've tried far too many amps over the years and I just keep coming back to it.

Re: Marshall 2553

I've got one and love it. The I don't have the matching cab though...I wish I did.

I've always wanted to try a Jubilee really bad, but I never thought I would actually see one. One day I walked into guitar center and there it was with the matching cab. The next day I came in and my father cut a deal with me that if he paid for it, that I'd have to pay him back, which I eventually did. I payed half and my dad told me to forget about the rest, which was way cool of him

Anyway, the next day I came in we got the head but the matching cab was gone. So I had to buy a black Marshall 4x10. There are sometimes when I think I could use another amp. But when my band goes to rehearse at an hourly rehearsal studio and I have to play through a JCM2000, I can't wait to get back to my Jubilee.

What I definately love about this model is the size, its is WAY more convenient to carry around than a normall sized head and 4x12, although I wish my cab had wheels sometimes.

I ranted..
