Marshall and Fender solid state alternatives?

Re: Marshall and Fender solid state alternatives?

For non-Metal, go with a Peavey Bandit TransTube 1x12 or 2x12 combo, or a Fender RocPro1000 head (all SS) and Carvin VE212 cabinet with Carvin "British" 12s (Union Jack on the back).

I used the 1x12 TransTube combo in my old band for doing everything from CCR to Alice In Chains to Nugent to Skynrd to Sabbath. The local drunks we played for didn't mind.
The Peavey died (I killed it) and was replaced by the Fender/Carvin setup.

An overdrive in front of the Bandit will easily push it for most metal sounds.

It had plenty of gain for what we were doing. If you want Doom/Death/Black Metal, then yeah, it's gonna need help.

Those Marshall MG's are total crap. As far as the Fender Mustangs are concerned , I went and bought a Mustang II V 2 combo a few months ago and really wasn't that impressed with it at all. For a 40 watt combo it is very loud but IMO, you need to be a total techno whiz just to figure out how to program the darn thing using the Fender Fuse software. I bought it back to GC and got myself a used , 1989 USA made, Peavey Bandit 112 Solo Series 80 watt combo which is one of the best sounding solid state amps I've ever played. It's 24 years old and still sounds like it just came off of the assembly line. You should see about scoring one of those . You won't regret it. The cleans on these are great and are right up there with anything that Fender has out . The Gain is mostly for Blues but it does take to pedals really well.

Tube power????? Solid state front? That's messed up. Out put tube distortion is generally an unreasonable and destructive thing. That said it can be pure awesome if you can take the volume and afford the repairs.

Listen - AMps blow for a lot of reasons. One is having the output tubes self destruct because of being on 10.

Don't get me wrong - the harmonic awesome that is a totally domed Marshall is, well, awesome. But it is so effing loud that even Godzilla there would ask you to turn it down.

And, when the signal goes overboard - KABOOM. New speakers, output tubes, tranny etc...

But as for all the diodes up front - you learn something new every day!
