what the difference between the two?

both marshall amps are discontinued.

they are basically the same amps but i think the AVT-50X is newer than the AVT-50. anyway were there any improvements in the newer AVT-50X.

(this question also applies to the "AVT-##" and the "AVT-##X" series)

Re: marshall AVT-50 vs AVT-50X

The "X" is made in asia somewhere whereas the AVT (valvestate 2000's) were made in england

i see, so i guess the AVT are better than the AVT-X?

i might buy a second hand AVT-50, i thought the AVT-50X is better because its newer but i might go for the AVT-50 then.

cool, thanks kamanda!

Re: marshall AVT-50 vs AVT-50X

There are different SERIES of valvestates, theres the I, the II, the vs2000 and the "X's". I've played vs2000 and the II I beleive (I own a avt150h head through a 1960B cab, and a avt20) and I liked the vs2000 better then the previous series.

In the ones BEFORE the vs2000 the preamp tube was only kicked in for the gain channels whereas on the vs2000 and the X its on both (just ads a bit of warmth). AVT's are great amps and definatly go for the second hand avt-50 (please tell me what series it is though) as avt's are a little overpriced IMO.

Re: marshall AVT-50 vs AVT-50X

im going for this one: http://used.guitarcenter.com/usedgear/details.cfm?listId=104024355

is it good for the money?

i might get this or a roland CUBE-30X. im done with amp modeling. the reason i'm getting the 30X is for its "dyna amp"

im also considering the avt 50 because i heard its good SS amp with tube characteristics.

i would like to get a tube amp but i dont have the money so im considering one of these two.

i might also get a cheap tube amp. im choosing between the peavey royal 8 or the palomino v8. they are just 199usd each. but i feel ill get bored to them in the long run since they are straight forward class A tube amps.

what would you get?

o yeah! i was searching for the product manual of the AVT50 and the AVT 50X.

in page 49 of the avt20X/50X manual (http://www.marshallamps.com/downloads/files/AVT20X_50X hbk Eng.pdf)
and also in page 9 of the AVT20/50 (http://www.marshallamps.com/downloads/files/AVT20&50hbk.pdf),

it was indicated that both of them are made in england, in milton keynes to be exact. although the AVT 20X/50X manual had some japanese text.

does this mean that the AVT VS2000 series were all made in england while the AVT-X were made, some in england some in asia?

well thanks again =)

dude, i've owned vox valvetronics 100 watt amp and an marshall avtx 100 watt amp. i must admit that i liked the marshall amp better. the vox was a great value in that it had the amp modeling and a really great sound (for a hybrid amp), but something about the marshall avt amp was just better.

both had good cleans. nothing like real tube amp circuitry would produce, but as close as you'll get. the marshall had a nice gritty gain. the vox had a nice smooth gain too. i think the marshall won in overall tone. the marshall tone was apparent in the avtx. there's something about that crunch, soaring highs, and fantastic midrange that was just awesome. the vox seemed to like scooped mids.

from what i know, and friends i have talked to who work at various guitar shops, the avt is not a reliable amp. the newer ones are said to be quite reliable. i don't know this for sure, but i've heard from some good sources. i traded my valvestate in for a real tube amp and will never part from all-tubes. but if i were looking for a cheaper amp with great tone, that would be my first choice. hope this helped, good luck

for the reliability issue, does that apply for the AVT VS2000 series or just the I's and II's only?

i also have an Vox Valvetronix-50. i love it and will never sell it.

althogh im looking for a tighter hi-gain crunch (van halen), and my VOX can achieve this thru the UK-70 & 80 with an OD pedal (tubulator or TS-9) but i still want more crunch. im hoping the 2nd hand AVT-50 sold at our local store could achieve this. im gonna check it soon.

thanks for the insights, appreciate it all =D

Re: marshall AVT-50 vs AVT-50X

i think you'll like the avtx a bit more. it's got that classic marshall crunch and in the right mix sounds almost just like a tube head. NOTHING AT ALL like my jvm, but then again it's only about 1/4 the cost

yah.. i might really like it and its easy on the pocket. well it really depends as soon as i try it at my local store.

anyway would you really suggest an AVTX over an AVT VS200?

Re: marshall AVT-50 vs AVT-50X

i had the avt a couple of years ago and liked it. it's been a while so the sound isn't fresh in my mind. but a while back i spent a couple of hours with the avtx and i thought it sounded a little better. the cleans were good and the crunch was great. very warm sounding like the vox but with much more of a marshall vibe.

like i said, i've heard from a few people that the avtx is more reliable. i don't really know that as a fact, and never had any problems with the one i had. i also only had it for a couple of months before trading it in for a tube amp.

all i can say is plug an american strat or a les paul (like i did at guitar center) into an avtx and you'll like it. sit right next to a vox valvetronix and see what you think. if you like that marshall vibe, you'll like the avtx. i don't really care where they're made now if they're more reliable than before.

Re: marshall AVT-50 vs AVT-50X

I owned an avt275 for several yrs and recently sold it to buy my orange. I never played thru the avt50, but my understanding is that it's basically a simplified version of the avt275. By that, I mean it's only got 2 channels (vs 4) and no fx section built in. The od is pretty good until you start turning the gain past 12 o'clock, then it gets kinda buzzy and sounds muddy. The cleans are pretty good tho. If you can get the amp for a decent price, go for it. Later on tho, you'll probly want a "real" tube amp, that's what happened to me.

Re: marshall AVT-50 vs AVT-50X

yah, i really like the marshall crunch tone =) i dont have the money for high gain tube amps. the used AVT-50 for 225 usd would be good for me. i have try it 1st soon. i hope its not sold yet

thanks for everything guys!!
