Marshall AVT Series

I've heard a lot of mixed reviews describing the Marshall Valvestate Series. What are your personal opinions?

If anyone owns or has knowledge involving the AVT150, please post your thoughts on this head. I'm looking for a few second opinions.

I prefer the MG series personally. I do not like the AVTs, not worth the extra cash IMO. Better still, save up extra for a proper tube amp

Horribly overpriced. A tiny improvement over the MG's marked by a $200 price difference. Save your money and buy a hybrid worth buying such as the Vox Valvetronix.

i love mine

i got an avt150, and i think it's awesome!!!

people just dont know how to set it up correctly, i was able to get a really good classic rock, zeppelin type tone out of it tonight, cream tone, hendrix tone form it.

i love it

it only has 1 preamp tube........very very sad to have an amp called "VALVESTATE!!!" when it only has 1 little preamp tube. I A/B'ed my blonde bandmaster vs my buddy's avt and he almost cried at the tone difference. You may as well buy a good solid state and save the cash.

I have an MG100 that I play occasionally. It really rocks with downtuned playing. I honestly didnt like the AVT150 a whole lot when I tried it out. Its loud, but it just doesnt have the same sensitivity the MG series does for High Gain downtuned stuff. Although for clean, the AVT150 is better than the MG100. But seriously man, they both venture above the range of a decent tube amp. Get yourself a 50 watt traynor limited edition with a vintage 30 or something
It might not be as loud without an extension cab, but It will definitely give you more tonal diversity right out of the box. Not to mention better response to pedals.
There are also other great tube amps out there for really great prices.

Share your Tonal combinations with me. I can't seem to find a very good OD2 tone. Its either too fuzzy or two weak. Currently I'm at:

DIST: 3/5
VOL: 3/5

LOW: 3/4
MID: 1/4
HIGH: 3/4

i had the 150h for a couple years. I thought it was decent at first.... then i realized what garbage it really was. I still have 2 avt 4-12 cabs that i wanna sell. Haven't gotten that far yet. as far as that amp don't waiste your money. find a decent used tube amp off of ebay and call it a day.

they're not horrible if you're just gonna play at home, but if you plan to gig, i suggest something else. i've had one for a couple years, and just ended up buying a mesa rectoverb off ebay to replace it. ill still keep the avt around for playing at home when i cant turn the mesa up too loud.

My philosophy has always been that if you know you're serious about playing guitar (or any other hobby for that matter) don't buy middle end stuff just to settle on having something a little bit bigger or better for the moment. Wait it out for things you'll still be happy with a few years down the road. You're gonna want a tube amp after you play a solid state amp for a while so just save a little longer or buy a used tube amp. It'll be cheaper in the long run. If you buy the AVT and later sell it to buy a tube amp, you'll get no money for the AVT and therefore just be wasting cash. And by the way, don't obsess over having a halfstack. Combo's are cheaper and still sound as good if not better if you're going to be playing at lower volumes. Even if you are gigging, I played for years live with a mesa 100watt nomad 2X12 combo and sounded louder and better than all the other bands w/ halfstacks.

Good advice. Save up the $$$ and you'll be happier with what you got.

I bought a older model Valvesate, the VS65R, and while I was very pleaseed with it, eventually spent the extra $$ and went all tube on my TSL602. I hardly play the VS65R now...
