Marshall Bluesbreaker mojo

OK, so I have been on the endless quest for the right amp for a while; had a DSL50, great clean and leads, just to F'n loud! Have a Tech21 Trademark 60 and it is really nice but has some weird push in the upper-mids that is hard to work around, guess I could play around some more with EQ but I had the same issue with Trademark 10...

Last month, I watched Joe Bonamassa's video at Rockplast and he sounds A-awesome playing thru his board and a Bluesbreaker - hmm... Today, I throw in the 2nd disk from Rory at Montroux and hear ol' Rory just fat, thick but still tight and Strat-ty, still Rory - what is that behind him? A Bluesbreaker! Never knew he played one but it sounds the best I have ever heard him.

So, the originals are hella out of my budget, the reissues are pretty pricey too; are there kits that would capture the magic? Any clones that sound as good as or better? Because it is a damn good sound - he just switched to a Tele and that is fierce sounding as well! :smack:

There are plenty of kits and parts out there for JTM45 heads and/or Bluesbreakers. Depending on how handy you are you could build one from scratch, or convert a donor amp. You can buy a board and populate it yourself, or buy a whole kit.

If you're not handy, Scott_F could build you one, too...

Re: Marshall Bluesbreaker mojo

It's funny this got brought up...I have had JTM-45 GAS for a long time now...either the JTM head with a cab or a straight up Bluesbreaker. I assume you are looking at the combo and you're right the originals are out of the question for most of us and the reissues just don't cut it IMO.

There are a load of companies doing BB type amps but most of them are not true clones...the biggest difference is that almost no one is building one with tremolo, not that it matter much the trem sort of sucked on those anyway!

Do you want to buy an amp or do you want to DIY?

Re: Marshall Bluesbreaker mojo

I'm thinking my next project should be something in the JTM/59' Bassman style amp (GAS ATTACK) Like mentioned Scott_F can build you one. Or check out www.tedweber.com . He has some very reasonable priced kits. I'm very curious to know the Quality of the components in his kits?

Re: Marshall Bluesbreaker mojo

I would definetly go for a Celtic Edana, its a JTM45 clone and from what I've heard of everyone that has it (and from the clips), it might be one of the best ones around. A bit better then a normal one, with a cool switch in the back to give the amp more of a plexi-vibe to it. And you could even get one in Irish Flag Tolex for the maximum Rory/Irish vibe :fingersx:

Re: Marshall Bluesbreaker mojo

The switch on the back isn't a gain boost. It's a tone stack mod. It gives the upper mids a slight bump for a more plexi vibe. FANTASTIC AMP!!! BUY ONE TODAY!!!
