Re: Marshall Country Club

Late 70 amps. There was a 4140 (2x12 for guitar) a 4145 (4x10 for guitar) and a 4150 (4x10 for bass). There were originally made for country players, Rose morris (Marshall's US distributers) felt that Marshall was ignoring the country players, so this was an amp for them. Much cleaner that most Marshalls of the time. They are some what rare. SRV used one from time to time, but I have heard that it was modded and i have also heard that it was stock, he didn't use it often anyway. There is very little about them in my Marshall book, so that's about all I can really tell you except this...there is one sitting in a shop in Atlanta I have played thorugh. Im not a big fan of it...it doesn't have the typical "Marshall tone" and the tone3 controls work funny, the reverb is fair...over all I was just sort of unimpressed with it...you might like it, hell, you might love it but It wasn't for me.

Good luck

Re: Marshall Country Club

Thanks for the help, Inventor of Fire. To be honest I'm not really looking for typical Marshall sounds. What appeals about this amp is the clean tones I've heard it's capable of. I've heard a lot of comparisons made between this and a Fender Twin, do you know if there is anything to that? Also, I'd be interested to hear how much the amp in your local is listed for.

Thanks,
Benja

Re: Marshall Country Club

Benja,

I will tell you this, I play though a 1969 Fender twin that is amazing, it has the Clean Twin tone, reverb to die for and a great tremolo. The Marshall is cleaner that most Marshalls, and it far cleaner that most other late 70's Marshalls but it is in no way on par with the clean tone from a Fender Twin reverb.

As for the price on the one her, I belive it was priced around $800, and I belive he got talked down a little on it...you have to remember it sat in his store for almost 2 years.
