Marshall DSL 401

Re: Marshall DSL 401

The other guitar player in my band has a DSL 401 and it sounds anything but thin and buzzy or fuzzy. It sounds big and fat and just plain great. He uses a Jeckyl and Hyde OD out front and he also uses the amps drive too. It's all in how you dial the thing in, as is the case with any amp. He managed to get it dialed in really sweet. I couldn't for some reason when I tried one at GC a while back.

Try one out and if you like it, and it works for you, get it.

Re: Marshall DSL 401

I had a DSL401 and DSL201 for a few years. The clean channel on the 401 was fantastic. The distortion and boost channel did have a buzzy quality that became very annoying. Sounded like a pie tin was taped to the back of the cabinet. I tried new speakers/tubes , but eventually sold both for a TSL601. One of my guitar student plays through a 401 at school, and I can hear the buzzy quality in his too. Sometimes I wish I still had the 201 for just the clean channel alone though.
