check this out,

They just launched (or did a month or two back) a new DSL range of amps,

Tell ya what, I might not have watched any demos yet but Im in love with the DSL15H already, looks awesome 4 x 12AX7's and 2 6V6 vales in it with a triode and pentode option to toggle between a 15 watt and 7.5 watt mode.

over here you can buy them for £399 which is pretty darn good! Tempted to get one..... but have to think about space, room, practicality and my beloved blackstar!! ;)

that's the only downside, the lack of an EX loop.... why they did that I really don't know, since one would imagine they would be competing against Orange and Blackstar which in some cases have EX loops.

i know man, its kinda bogus IMO. id switch my HT-5H out for a DSL15H in a New york minute if there was a loop.

id keep both to be honest, each amp has its own individual tone. I swapped out the pre amp tube in the HT5 and it sounds great now.

But Still GASsing for this Marhsall...

true i'd actually only need one small head, i use a mark IV for band stuff.

slightly off topic,

i actually dont mind the sound of the HT5, i know cats switch the tube, which one did you put in?

i put in a EH gold pin 12AX7

sounds brighter and all round a lot more fuller to my ears.

You can even get one from Tesco!

There's a couple more in that price range, I think the Vox Nighttrain and the VHT 12/20 are a bit cheaper. I have no idea how either of those sound...

I recently tried the DSL 15H at GC. I loved the clean channel but did not like the high gain channel. It sounded fake to me, kinda digital. I went to turn the gain down cause it was too much when I realized the gain knob was on 2. Way way too much gain.

I would like the clean channel with some pedals though.

FWIW, I've have loops added to amps before, and it wasn't that expensive. Obviously it increases the cost of the amp, but it can be done. If it really is the perfect amp for you, except that it doesn't have an effects loop, I say go for it, and have it modded.

Just looking at the specs, for me the worst thing is that it doesn't have reverb. Not that Marshall's reverb is worth much of a **** anyhow, but that still stinks in my book. I'd definitely get the combo instead of the head, for that reason alone. That also makes it self contained when needed. Other times, you can just pipe the amp in to whatever external cab you want.

The thing that doesn't convinces me is that 6V6 tubes... not for a British vibe!. It makes more sense to me to throw there a couple of EL84, insted.
I wish Marshall did some JTM45 in a lunchbox size and wattage!!!.

el84s break up in a gritty way, they probably want to retain the punch and smoothness that marshall overdrive is known for. el84s may make it sound more like a vox. in fact power tubes dont even matter that much, it's the circuit...

I think the idea of no loop was because this was designed as a recording amp. Usually any effects can be added later.

If the tubes in the gain section were swapped for ones that breakup later on with the gain knob then I think we could be somewhere with that... What other tubes fit in a 6V6 slot???

Eh? whatch u talkin bout? Gain section? You mean in the preamp gain stages? You want late breakup 12ax7's? Doesnt really exist now you can go to like 5751's in the preamp they have less gain but it doesnt necessarily come in "later". Swapping power tube types isnt as easy its going to depend on if the transformers can handle it. You can probably shove 6l6's in the sockets but properly biasing them will almost certainly be beyond what the trannies can hold. Not sure at all what your trying to achieve.
