For sure, the circuit gives the amp foundational tone but, power tubes make differences. Try an EH 6V6GT and a Tung Sol 6V6GT... sound the same?. NOPE!.
Also, is how they break when they are in the sweet spot and, I prefer how EL34s and EL84 break, while I a don't like how 6V6GT do it. Just my personal preference (and I had 3 different 6V6GT based amps, and still retain one!).

I am gassing for any tube head at the moment lol. I have had my eye all over the place for a Marshall MA50H, Laney Iron heart 60, Peavey Windsor, B-52 AT100, or a Vox Nightrain 50.

Oh well, happy with what I have. If the rig roars, it is good. If it belches, you need a new amp.

Can you imagine what Marshall would charge for a 15 watt JTM45 :eyecrazy: Those little 1 watters were going for about $800 brand new. A lower wattage JTM would be bada$$ though

Try JJ 6V6's ... They act and sound like low wattage EL34's. It's the main reason I prefer them .

Why would you want the 12ax7's to break up later? Are you trying to run the preamp harder? The idea on early and late break up power tubes is so you can get distortion at lower volumes or more headroom. If the preamp is overdriving too much turn it down or go to a lower gain tube but this has nothing to do with earlier or later.

Platooooooooon, shoulder handbags!

Pre-amp valves (tubes) provide gain. "Break up" is a quality usually attributed to the power stage.

Break up is just distortion, and pre amp tubes do it when they start to get saturated just like power tubes do.
