Marshall JCM2000 DSL setting suggestions?

Let me just start off by saying that I love this amp! I'm having troubles finding my "perfect" setting though. I play a lot of punk/pop punk/rock stuff and I'm looking for a really crisp, not muddy, not too treble heavy setting for this amp. I'm running it through a marshall 1960B cabinet. Any suggestions would be appreciated so I can experiment :D

Let me guess. It's in your room set on 1.

It's a good amp rig, but man....it needs room to breathe. You'll hear the mighty Marshall roar once you get it turned up to 4 +. Then, EQ'ing it and setting the gain will automatically be easier.

You are not gonna get away from that with out some major tweaking, maybe even a mod and eq pedal. had that amp for a while playing and giging so I know a bit ...

it is in my room right now at the moment... but whether its in my room or at the rehearsal space i do crank it lol.

and I did have an eq pedal for my set up a while ago, but it didn't really make a world of difference

that amp has a presence setting, right? and what guitar are you using for it? generally, the kind of sound you are looking for is what i go for too. try this....

turn the presence up around 2/3, and set the EQ flat. for the bass, turn it up until it gets too boomy or overbearing, then turn it down about 1/2 a point. if you want a more metallic sound, turn the mids down a bit but not too far or you'll get lost in the mix. i usually have mine up about 4/5 for a punchier tone. for the treble, just turn it up to right below where it starts to sound too sharp.

Start off with all the knobs (except master) around noon. Get the master up to your desired volume and adjust the settings from there.

Been awhile since I sold my DSL50 but I can say one thing, that amp plus the GT12-75s in that cab (assuming it's stock) are hard to dial in. Those speakers have a very v shaped response curve to begin with so getting the sound you want might be a bit of a challenge. I ended up rinning mine with Vintage 30's and G12H30 speakers and the improvement was remarkable.

I know thats not what you asked so, my settings were something like this:
OD1
No Bass Boost or tone shift (unless practicing at home)
Bass 8
Mids 6
Treble 5
Presence 3
Gain 4-7 depending on what I'm shooting for

I might suggest dialing in the Crunch Mode of the clean channel (it's bassier) to give you a nice crunch when picked hard and then get a SD-1 or equivalent and boost the front end of it. This channle works reacts extremely well to this. As a matter of fact this is how I used it.......

Hope this helps.....
