have any of you guys played/owned/have a Marshall JTM60 combo? im havin trouble finding anything out about it......i could pick up a 2x12 combo jtm60 for $300 if i wanted to, is that a decent price? (seems pretty good to me).........whats it sound like?

Re: Marshall JTM60?

That price is veeeery good IMO. I paid about $550 for mine. A JTM60 is the same as a JCM600. The cleans are excellent. The OD is on the bright side, but you can totally pull a good amount of chunk out of it.

The JTM stuff does not have the classic Marshall tone, it is a good tone...more modern crunch tones...think JCM 800/JCM 900 style crunch and clean tones that are more Fender that Marshall...I have heard some real bad stories about these amps over heating a lot as well...I wish I could tell you more.

Re: Marshall JTM60?

I owned the JTM 622 for 5 years it's a great amp. I never had any problems with over heating, I think it was more the JTM 30 and the JTM 612 1x12 version. I sold it only because I got a great deal on a JCM 602 and then I sold my amp to a good friend of mine. $300.00 is a great price. I sold mine for $350.00

Enjoy it.

+1
I used a JCM 600 Head on the Road for awhile.
Excellent cleans, Pretty good Overdrive.
Easy to maintain, never had a problem with it.
NEVER Overheated. ( But, I run a fan behind ALL my amps, regardless of Make or Model )

It sounded NOTHING like my old JCM 800's, however !!!!

The JTM series and the JCM 600's are kind of like a cross between a Fender and Marshall. They tend to be a bit Bright, with Nice cleans... but the Brightness can be rolled out with the EQ.

I never used the Overdrive channel, as I use old TS 808's to push all my amps. ( well, now I'm using a Spina modded 808..LOL )

All in All they are VERY Cool amps !!!!!!!!!

I found the one I had to be very useable, and a Joy to play.............:)

*** and $ 300 for the 60 is a steal ***

Re: Marshall JTM60?

I have a JTM60 2x12 combo that I'm in the process of selling to another forum member. It's an excellent amp that, between its two channels, covers everything from clean to pretty high gain rock (not as high gain as a Mesa, but more than I ever use). Basically, it has two channels, one voiced for clean to classic "plexi", the other from classic "plexi" to high gain. The channels have independent reverb and EQ. It also has series and parallel effects loop. The handbook here describes the feature in detail:

http://www.marshallamps.com/images/handbooks/pdf/jtm60.pdf

I've owned mine from new and used it for many rehearsals and gigs and I've never had any problems with it.

You may wonder why, if it's so good, am I selling mine? Well, I have two Marshalls, I want to buy some new gear and I can't justify keeping the two Marshalls in the house plus extra stuff. My other Marshall is a 2553 Jubilee which is somewhat collectable. The JTM60 is more versatile than the 2553, and I know at some point I will regret parting with it, but I just can't let the 2553 go.

$300 sounds like an excellent price to me.

Re: Marshall JTM60?

I was gonna chirp in, but Simon covered pretty much everything you need to know about the amp :)

I also disagree that it sounds like a JCM 800/JCM 900. The Overdrive on the JTM60 is alot smoother sounding than my JCM800, and I'll agree that it can be a bright sounding amp but it's nothing a good tweak of the EQ won't finx :)
