Which 2x12 is it?
There was a Jub 2x12 (model 2556) which was a slant cab that looks like a smaller 4x12 slant. It came loaded with G12-75T's. That is the most common Jub 2x12 I know of...I would say around $300-$500 for the cab depending. As for the head I would guess around $1000-$1200 depending...so I guess you could say $1300-1700 for the pair...this is of course depending on condition and it is also assuming that both pieces are silver not the later black.
This is my best guess based on prices I have seen recently...

The first year of the Jubs they were silver the ones that came after that were black like normal...the silver ones are worth more but they sound the same. As for the speakers, more than likely they are G12-75T's...

The 2553 is the small box 50w head - same amp as the 2550. It came as a mini-stack with the 2556A and 2556B 2x12 cabs. The speakers in the cabs are diagonally mounted so they look like little 4x12s. The stock speakers were the G12-75Ts, but they were also available as 2556AV and 2556BV with Vintage 30s.
I have a silver 2553 head with 2556B cab that I bought in 2002 for £620 ( $1200). It sounds GREAT...

that is a nice looking set up... never saw that head and cab before.... at least i never remember seeing them... were they UK/Europe only?

I would say that doesn't sound too bad...Im not the expert though. I just know that the Silver ones are the real pricy ones...

Dave you are not alone my friend!
I dis like the amps, I dislike the silver tolex, I dislike the chrome faces and I HATE the speakers...G12-75's are the worst celestion speaker ever IMHO.
I dig plexi marshalls, JMP's and a few MV heads and some of the 800's but as a rule after the JCM 800's Marshalls just bug me...

Maybe there's a big character change once they get cranked- but at what I would consider on the edge of 'excessive stage volume' it still sounded fizzy and weak.

The one in my avatar is the 2550 50W w/Vin 30 cabs. It's got 2 JJ E-34L's and 3 Sovtek 12AX7LPS, and it's the best sounding Jubilee I've ever had/heard.
My first good amp was a brand new silver 2555 100W head I bought in 88, but I sold it years ago....like a moron. I found this stack in 2001, and am mostly keeping it as a collectible that I can have fun with occasionally.
These amps really respond to tube changes, so if you use the right tubes, it sounds great at all clean, midgain, or highgain levels. The closest way to describe the tone is to just refer you to the JVM soundclips in the amp room.
It's nearly the same tone. Believe it or not, the JJ E-34's actually sound better than the Siemens the amp shipped with in 87. I have a bunch of NOS Siemens, and the JJ's still sound beefier.

Thats funny you said that Joe...I thought that JVm head sounded terrible. There could be a million reasons why it sounded terrible but to me that amp sounded fizzy/fuzzy and just plain boring...

My tastes have changed as well, and I'm a roots/blues/rock player, who's more into organic tones....much like you.
The Jubilee was made in the heyday of hair metal, and the tones it gets are those tones. You either like that sound or you don't.....or occasionally, like me.
It's not a bad sounding Marshall. It's just a high gain rock machine, which you aren't all that fond of. Think KISS, Ratt, Dokken, Ozzy, and most shred. All of them being the total opposite of ZZ Top, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin. For those tones, the Jubilee can kinda cop them, but you're better off with a vintage Marshall tone.
Jubilees were the answer to Marshall fans who complained that Marshall amps didn't have enough gain....and they wanted one that didn't need an OD pedal.
