WE DON'T YET OWN A MARSHALL AND HAVE USED ONLY FENDERS. WE'D LIKE TO ADD A MARSHALL TO OUR SET OF AMPS AND WANT TO KNOW IF THIS SEEMS LIKE A GOOD ADDITION? THANKS FOR ANY RECOMMENDATIONS!

yes they are good but can't you just go play one? Every big chain guitar store should have a JVM somewhere.

Re: Marshall JVM Series JVM410C Tube Combo Amp - SHOULD WE BUY?

God I wish huh?!!!
I live way way away from such places. We have some music shops but they can't afford to have such a large, expensive amp on their shelves. Not every place in the world has such access and luxuries. Hard for some on this forum to believe, but it is real life for many in the world. Meanwhile, music is still a great gift to mankind and we try our best not to miss out on anything. Ordering direct "online" has opened up a huge market for us and without this we'd really be stuck with very little choice. Even a Mackie 450 speaker is too much to keep in stock. We just don't have the population to justify such inventory.

So............is the JVM 410C the top of the line Marshall made these days? Thanks again....really appreciate the incredible mass of knowledge from this site!

If you bought one without playing it, you would not be disappointed. They sound incredible.

Re: Marshall JVM Series JVM410C Tube Combo Amp - SHOULD WE BUY?

if you want a modern amp with the bells and whistles that will give you sweet cleans, smooth overdrive, and if you need it, lots of gain with that absolutely Marshall sound... yeah the JVM does it. It even sounds good without being cranked.
Some of marshall's other amps feel and sound more raw and in your face, the JVM feels kind of smooth and refined. If that's your thing then go for it. If you just need a one trick pony for hard rock then skip the JVM and get a single channel amp like a JCM 800, many people like that they feel more immediate and they seem to bite more.

Re: Marshall JVM Series JVM410C Tube Combo Amp - SHOULD WE BUY?

I've always wanted the 50 watt 1x12" version. To me, a JVM is THE amp. I've spent too much money on guitars over the years. I should have used some of that money to get a JVM. There really isn't an application that would necessitate something with that much power though, because I mainly play for fun, at home, alone. And I've got neighbors that I can't trust not to try to break in and steal my stuff, so I'm avoiding anything expensive for the time being. Still, I want one.

Even places that did carry higher end stuff is backing off so your not alone here. I get frustrated when I can't just go to our local stores and play what I want to play. People today in general are not spending the money on higher end gear.
Back on topic here , as already said , the JVM is fantastic. It's one of those amps that is really complete. There is not much it can't do. Honestly I think it covers just about everything from it's sweet clean to it's strongest drive channel gain and everything in-between. It's one hell of an amp and if you can't plug in but love Marshall tone , this amp brings it.
It is one of those amps I will own one day.

I have the JVM410 head. I love it but I'm thinking of getting something smaller to gig with. Between the head and a 2x12 recto cab my rig weighs a ton and I really don't need all that to get the job done. But it does sound sweet!

Ever consider a Combo amp? 1x12 or a 2 x12? I think they are easier to haul around , setup and most of the time if not all of the time plenty of power for basically any venue.

Sometimes... Some 100 watt 2x12 combos are real back breakers. Even my MK IV which is a 1x12 is over 80lbs. For me 2 trips 1 with a 50 pound head and 1 with a 40 pound 2x12 is easier than trying to get my arms around the puny handles on a lot of combos. But YMMV its just my 2cents

Re: Marshall JVM Series JVM410C Tube Combo Amp - SHOULD WE BUY?

I also have a JVM 410H, but I wouldn't get the combo or even the one I have. Get the JVM 410JHS (Joe Satriani Model). It already has some tweaks done to it that are similar to some of the mods that some of the guys over at JVMforum.com have come up with, plus the Crunch Channel is derived from the Marshall AFD Slash Model. The clean channel is supposed to be more Fender like too.

If the Satriani head were out when I bought my JVM, I would have bought it instead and wouldn't have mine torn apart to do mods.......well, except for the Rectifier and Negative Feedback mods. ;)

Great comments and info.........convinced me to go for it. It will take weeks to get all the way out here but worth the wait I'm sure. Our first Marshall............went with the JVM410C.

Again, thanks for the pros/cons and some really good info!

Yep no more combos for me as well. I love the flexability and practicality of using different heads and cabs for whatever is needed.

What speakers do you use with your JVM?
I have a 1960A 4x12 and a 1960B 4x12. They both have the Celestion G12T-75 speakers in them. I've read that the JVM was designed with those speakers in mind to be used with it.

I tried it with a Celestion Vintage 30 loaded Marshall cabinet, and my 5150 Sheffield loaded cabinet as well. I didn't care for the way the amp sounded with those. I really like the way it sounds with the G12T-75's.

That's good news for me because that's the exact cab I use for mine :P In white too.

It had a bit of a scratchy feel to the treble and I was worried maybe it wasn't made for the T-75s in mind but I learned the EQ section a little better, took out the C83 and did the plexi mod (it's easy, you just strap across a resistor) and it sounded a lot better, all that gain on board was more useable.

The recto red mod looks kinda cool, but it's a Marshall and I already have a Dual Rec.

Re: Marshall JVM Series JVM410C Tube Combo Amp - SHOULD WE BUY?

Congrats man. I'm sure you're going to love that amp. I'm a bit envious, but I have too many amps already including a Marshall Vintage Modern which has great tone.

Soon I'm gonna have to thin the herd. (I also have way too many pedals and guitars).

Oops! I just contradicted myself...too many guitars? Well maybe more than I use, but not really too many...that's impossible.

Re: Marshall JVM Series JVM410C Tube Combo Amp - SHOULD WE BUY?

can't say I'd want the combo version of that beast!
