The JVM will get a heck of a lot heavier than the DSL. I wouldn't use the DSL for any kind of modern metal, there are just so many other amps better at it.

The JVM is definitely the winner of the two. The DSL is very loose on the bottom end and gets pretty fizzy. It just doesn't sound all that great, especially for what you're looking to use it for.

I agree with some of the guys here, by saying that you should be able to get a very useable tone from the JCM800. You just need the right pedal. Look into the Wampler Triple Wreck, and that may be up your alley.

I also recommend the 5150/6505 amp as well. That's pretty much the go-to amp for your kind of style.

Not a Marshall, but the Hughes & Kettner Warp X is a wild beast (or Warp T.. same amp, different looks).
Highly underrated, and very (VERY) poorly marketed by H&K (don't let yourself be fooled by the 'NU' in the marketing page).

I play deathcore in a band... and need a new amp I love my Marshall JCM800 but it doesn't get the deathcore very well it does metal well deathcore... no... so JVM vs DSL for deathcore/8 string stuff. thanks! and any other marshall recommendation is good.

I say modeler for that. its hard to mic up those low frequencies on a stage with all the other volume from drums and bassguitar. direct signal is best. I say axefxii or kemper!

help me understand please... what would be the advantage of using a kemper or axefx over just getting a good di box for the amp you got?

I need IR impulses, and Kemper and axefx have those. otherwise to simulate speaker distortion all that you have left is an EQ curve and that sounds bad for guitar

a di box for the amp you got just uses an EQ curve to simulate the speakers!

Gotcha just seems like an expensive option only to serve the 8 string would rather just fork out for a decent mic

I dunno, 8 string is not gonna sound good through PA for low frequencies

they go for $2500 for a head and so do marshall heads new

He already has a marshall head.... And ill disagree that you cant get 8 string to sound good through a pa without an Axe FX or a Kemper

Guitar> AMT P1 > the FX return on the amp. It's even better if you throw a TS clone in front and it's even better. It's like $120 on the used market here. It's worth every penny.

Good point. The 5150/6505 is hard to beat for what the OP wants.

Grab a 5150/6505, sell the Marshall and you'll come out ahead. The JVM has a ton of gain but I don't think it's voiced for modern metal, at least to my ears.
